This team is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to support the design and execution of high-voltage substation projects ranging from 13kV to 765kV for utility and energy clients.
This is a direct-hire opportunity to join a highly respected engineering organization where you'll collaborate with experienced engineers and project teams to deliver substation projects from concept through construction. You'll gain exposure to every phase of the project lifecycle while developing technical expertise in substation design, performing engineering analyses, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting utility clients on critical infrastructure projects.
- Support high-voltage substation projects (13kV-765kV) from conceptual design through construction.
- Develop engineering design packages, including physical layouts, protection & control systems, grounding, lightning protection, lighting, and security systems.
- Perform engineering calculations including grounding analysis, insulation coordination, battery sizing, AC/DC station service, voltage drop, cable sizing, and conduit fill.
- Prepare engineering deliverables including design drawings, equipment specifications, bill of materials, cost estimates, and construction documentation.
- Apply IEEE, NESC, utility, and industry standards throughout the design process.
- Participate in field visits and site inspections to support project execution and construction activities.
- Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
- Support technical reports, client presentations, proposals, and other project documentation.
- Perform design reviews and contribute to quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) efforts.
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
- Identify technical challenges and help develop practical engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
- 3+ years of substation engineering experience supporting high-voltage utility or power delivery projects.
- For Engineering Technology degrees, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam is required.
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification preferred.
- Working knowledge of substation engineering principles, industry standards (IEEE, NESC), and engineering design practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard engineering software.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated initiative with the ability to develop innovative solutions to engineering challenges.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting project deadlines.
