Why Haystack

The fastest way to hire Angular developers - without the agency tax.

Angular remains the default for large enterprise front-end estates - banking, insurance, telecoms and regulated SaaS. The hard part is finding engineers who understand RxJS deeply, can navigate a 300-module codebase, and ship change without regressions.

Haystack's Angular pool spans v9 to v17 (standalone components, signals, control flow). We surface the version, the testing approach and the team size on every profile.

What they ship

Production Angular work, not tutorials.

  • Large enterprise SPAs with hundreds of modules and strict performance budgets
  • Micro-frontend architectures with Module Federation
  • Migrations from AngularJS, View Engine or NgModule-heavy code to standalone components and signals
  • Component libraries built on Angular CDK and used across business lines

Playbook

Hiring Angular engineers - the long version

Angular specialist or generalist - which should you hire?

The honest answer is: it depends on the half-life of your Angular surface area. If your roadmap leans heavily on large enterprise spas with hundreds of modules and strict performance budgets and you expect to keep investing in TypeScript over the next 18-24 months, a specialist will out-deliver a generalist on day-30 throughput and incident response.

If your team is smaller than ten engineers, or Angular is one of three or four core technologies, hire a strong generalist who has shipped Angular in anger at least twice. The cross-stack pattern recognition will pay for itself the first time you need to integrate RxJS with another part of the system.

On Haystack we surface both - filtered by whether the candidate self-identifies as a Angular specialist and verified against their last two roles. Expect to pay around £60k–£80k for a mid-level UK hire, scaling toward £85k–£120k for senior.

Production patterns the best Angular hires bring

A great Angular engineer is not the one with the most stars on GitHub - it is the one who has paged at 3am for a Angular service they wrote, and changed how they build because of it. Across the product and design-engineering hires we have placed in 2025-2026, the same patterns keep showing up.

  • Tests that exercise the TypeScript integration boundary, not just isolated unit logic.
  • Documented architectural decisions explaining why this Angular pattern was picked over the alternatives.
  • Angular services instrumented with tracing from day one, not bolted on after the first incident.
  • Performance budgets agreed with product, with Angular profiling baked into CI.

Red flags when interviewing Angular developers

Every stack has its own pattern of plausible-sounding answers that fall apart in production. With Angular, these are the patterns that most often correlate with a six-month regret hire on the employer side.

  • Blames TypeScript for past failures without explaining what they shipped to mitigate it.
  • Cannot name a single Angular library they have deliberately chosen NOT to use, or explain why.
  • Defines "senior Angular" purely by years, not by scope of decision-making or systems owned.
  • Names every Angular feature on the docs page but cannot describe a single trade-off they hit in production with TypeScript.

A sample take-home for Angular candidates

When teams ask us how to evaluate Angular engineers beyond a CV, we recommend a 90-minute paid take-home that mirrors real work, not algorithm puzzles. The brief below is one we have refined with employers hiring product and design-engineering teams.

Give the candidate a small, intentionally imperfect Angular service that already does large enterprise spas with hundreds of modules and strict performance budgets. Their task is to add a second capability - micro-frontend architectures with module federation - while keeping existing behaviour green. Grade in three parts.

  • Correctness: the new Angular feature works under the provided TypeScript tests, plus one edge case the candidate adds themselves.
  • Engineering judgement: did they refactor or wrap the legacy code? Either is fine - we are listening for the reasoning, not the verdict.
  • Communication: a short README explaining what they would do differently with another week, including any RxJS concerns they spotted.

What to expect in the first 30 days from a Haystack Angular hire

By week one, the new Angular engineer should have shipped a small change to production - typically a docs fix, a TypeScript dependency bump or a minor refactor in large enterprise spas with hundreds of modules and strict performance budgets. The goal is to validate the development loop, not to ship anything heroic.

By week two, expect them on the on-call rota in a shadow capacity, pair-programming on at least one feature, and asking pointed questions about why specific Angular patterns were chosen. If they are not asking those questions, the hire is going to plateau.

By day 30, they should own one cleanly-scoped slice of the Angular surface area, have a public ramp-up document, and be the named reviewer on PRs touching that area. Every Haystack employer gets a structured onboarding template - so you are not reinventing the playbook for each hire.
