Design Engineer

Bury | £35,000 – £38,000 + benefits | 4.5 day week
I'm working with a growing engineering and manufacturing business in Bury who are looking to add a Design Engineer to their team following an internal change.
This is a really hands-on design role, working on bespoke commercial vehicle conversions and taking designs from the initial brief through to manufacture. You'll be working closely with the wider engineering and production teams, so it's a great opportunity for someone who enjoys seeing their designs come to life rather than being sat behind CAD all day.

The role
You'll be responsible for designing and developing bespoke vehicle conversion solutions, producing 3D models and manufacturing drawings and working closely with the shop floor to ensure designs can be built efficiently and effectively.
You'll also:

• Produce 3D models, assemblies and detailed engineering drawings
• Develop designs for bespoke commercial vehicle conversions
• Work closely with production and engineering teams to understand how products are built and identify the best solutions
• Create manufacturing information and instructions
• Support CNC cutting processes, with training provided where required
• Make improvements to existing products and develop new design solutions
• Manage design changes and ensure relevant information is kept up to date
• Work across multiple projects with quick turnaround times
• Get involved in problem solving and troubleshooting on the shop floor
• Look for ways to improve processes, simplify designs and reduce costs

About you
We're looking for someone with a background in mechanical/product design who enjoys working in a fast-paced, practical manufacturing environment.
You'll ideally have:

• Previous experience in a Design Engineer, Mechanical Design, Product Design or similar role
• Strong 3D CAD experience – the specific package is less important
• Experience working within a manufacturing or engineering environment
• A practical understanding of how products are designed and manufactured
• The ability to interpret drawings and understand how components and assemblies fit together
• Strong attention to detail
• Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
• The confidence to communicate with people across engineering, production and operations
• A proactive approach, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of your designs

Experience with CNC, automotive, vehicle conversions, electrical systems or Inventor would be advantageous, but isn't essential.
Most importantly, you'll need to be comfortable working at pace. Designs can have short turnaround times, so this will suit someone who enjoys variety, can manage pressure and is confident making decisions and taking accountability for their work.
