Service & Maintenance Engineer

We are recruiting for a Service & Maintenance Engineer to join a field based team covering London and the surrounding areas, This role is primarily focused on planned maintenance, reactive service calls and fault-finding across a varied customer portfolio.

We are looking for an engineer who understands how fire alarm systems operate, can interrogate systems and work through faults methodically, and takes ownership of delivering an effective resolution rather than simply completing routine testing.

Salary - £45,000
Monday - Friday 8.30am- 5.30pm with an on call rota every 4 weeks

Key Responsibilities:

• Service and maintain fire detection and alarm systems in accordance with BS 5839-1:2025, relevant standards and procedures.
• Attend reactive fault calls, diagnose system issues methodically and complete first-time fixes wherever reasonably possible.
• Use panel information, event histories, downloads, laptops and relevant software tools to support fault diagnosis.
• Identify defects, deficiencies and remedial requirements, recording findings clearly and accurately.
• Produce timely engineer reports and supporting documentation following service visits and call-outs.
• Communicate technical findings and recommended actions professionally to customers and internal teams.
• Carry out appropriate remedial, small works, upgrade or installation activity where required.
• Maintain appropriate van stock, tools and equipment to support effective service delivery.
• Work safely, proactively identifying and escalating Health & Safety concerns.
• Participate in the out-of-hours call-out rota when required.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Proven fire alarm service and maintenance experience, supported by strong practical fault-finding ability.
• Experience working with conventional and analogue addressable fire alarm systems.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of service activity on customer sites.
• Experience using laptops and manufacturer software to interrogate systems and support diagnosis.
• Good understanding of BS 5839-1 and current fire alarm servicing requirements.
• Strong written reporting, IT and customer communication skills.
• Sound Health & Safety judgement and a professional approach on occupied customer sites.
• FIA training or an equivalent industry qualification would be advantageous.

Experience across several fire alarm manufacturers, including systems such as Advanced, Kentec, C-TEC, Ziton, Gent, Protec and Notifier, would be advantageous.
