12+ month contract

W2 Only

Enterprise Architect, Resilience Patterns

JD:

About the role

We're building a library of enterprise patterns that our Solution Architects can rely on when they design systems for client lending business. Resilience is our next major focus, and I'm looking for an architect who can turn resilience principles into patterns that teams actually adopt.

You'll lead the creation of our resilience reference architecture, working closely with me and with platform teams on the implementation patterns beneath it. Your patterns will go through our multi-stage architecture review process, so you need to be comfortable explaining your design choices to senior technical reviewers. Strong opinions are welcome as long as you hold them loosely.

Our resilience program runs across four workstreams: standards and guidelines, backup and data protection, disaster recovery, and application service tiering. You'll contribute to all four, and your main job is turning the decisions made in each one into patterns for both Azure and our on-premises data centers that teams can adopt.

What you'll do

Standards and guidelines

Translate resilience standards into a platform-neutral reference architecture, with separate implementation patterns for Azure and on-premises

Make sure resilience patterns align with our observability, security, API management and data classification standards

Backup and data protection

Create backup, retention, immutability and restore patterns for Azure and on-premises workloads

Define restore validation so teams can prove a backup works, not just that it ran.

Disaster recovery

Design and author DR patterns for zone-redundant, multi-region and on-premises deployments, including hybrid scenarios where Azure serves as the recovery site for on-premises systems

Build DR testing guidance using Azure Site Recovery and fault-injection tooling

Application service tiering

Help map criticality tiers to resilience targets such as RTO, RPO and availability, and build patterns that show what each tier requires on Azure and on-premises

Across the program

Take patterns through our review gates to publication and own their annual recertification

Support Solution Architects in applying the patterns and flag resilience gaps during design review

Track where teams deviate from the patterns and feed what you learn back into the next version

What you bring

7+ years in technology, with at least 3 in solution or enterprise architecture roles

Demonstrated experience creating resilience patterns or reference architectures for Azure and on-premises environments that other teams have adopted. We'll ask you to walk through one in the interview.

Deep working knowledge of Azure resilience services and design options, including availability zones, region pairs, Azure Front Door and Traffic Manager, geo-replication for Azure SQL, Cosmos DB and Storage, Azure Site Recovery and Azure Backup

Hands-on experience designing resilience for on-premises infrastructure, such as virtualization clustering and HA, storage and database replication, enterprise backup platforms, and data center failover

Working knowledge of the Azure Well-Architected Framework reliability pillar and how to apply it in pattern guidance

Experience with failure mode analysis, SLOs and error budgets

Experience with Azure Chaos Studio or similar fault-injection tooling to validate that a pattern holds up under failure

The ability to separate what must be true (a standard) from how to make it true (a pattern), and to keep vendor-specific detail out of reference architectures

Clear writing and the confidence to present to an architecture review board

Nice to have

Financial services or lending experience, especially with FFIEC business continuity guidance or interagency operational resilience expectations

Experience with C4 modeling, SAP LeanIX or draw.io

Exposure to observability architecture (OpenTelemetry, centralized logging) and how it supports incident detection and recovery

Lucidchart or other Online Diagram Software

draw.io is free online diagram software for making flowcharts, process diagrams, org charts, UML, ER and network diagrams
