Role Summary
This person operationalizes data governance on our Microsoft Fabric platform using Microsoft Purview. Day to day: business glossary, critical data elements, data quality rules, data product curation, and stakeholder working sessions to settle definitions.

The Sourcing Reality
Purview s data governance tooling is new. Candidates with real hands-on Purview Unified Catalog experience will be rare, and anyone claiming deep expertise should be probed. Do not screen on Purview. Screen on the analytical and stewardship fundamentals. We will have to train on the tooling.

Must-Haves (screen on these)

• 3+ years in data analysis, business analysis, or data stewardship
• Strong SQL, used to profile and validate data, not just pull reports
• Has written business definitions, data dictionaries, or requirements that others relied on
• Can explain data quality dimensions with real examples from their work
• Has facilitated sessions where stakeholders disagreed and drove them to a decision

Nice-to-Haves (not required)

• Any catalog or governance tool: Purview, Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Unity Catalog
• Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, or Azure data experience
• Insurance or financial services, annuities a plus

Screen Out

• Pure dashboard or report developers with no definition or quality ownership
• Compliance-only profiles (records retention, DLP, eDiscovery). Purview has a compliance side; this role is the data governance side. This is the most likely mismatch, since both show up under Purview on a resume.
