SAP Data Migration Project Manager

DataStaff, Inc. is recruiting for an SAP Data Migration Project Manager for a contract opportunity with one of our direct clients.

* This position is a remote role with limited travel, if any.
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced SAP Project Manager with a strong background in SAP Data Migration to lead complex enterprise SAP implementation and transformation projects. This role will be responsible for managing data migration activities across the full project lifecycle, coordinating business and technical teams, managing project schedules and dependencies, and ensuring successful migration of enterprise data into SAP environments.
The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of Project Management experience and a proven track record managing large-scale SAP projects involving data conversion, migration, validation, testing, cutover, and go-live activities. Experience supporting SAP S/4HANA migrations or transformations is strongly preferred.
Prior experience within manufacturing, oil & gas, energy, or other asset-intensive industries is preferred but not required.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Client Delivery

• Lead and manage SAP data migration projects from planning and requirements through implementation, cutover, and post-go-live support.
• Serve as a primary point of contact between client leadership, business stakeholders, SAP functional teams, technical teams, and data migration resources.
• Develop and manage project plans, schedules, milestones, dependencies, budgets, risks, and resource requirements.
• Provide clear project status reporting to client leadership and other key stakeholders.
• Identify project risks, issues, and dependencies and drive them through resolution.
• Ensure projects remain aligned with scope, schedule, quality, and business objectives.

SAP Data Migration & Conversion

• Lead the planning and execution of data migration activities associated with SAP implementations and transformations.
• Coordinate data extraction, cleansing, transformation, mapping, validation, loading, reconciliation, and business sign-off.
• Manage migration activities involving master and transactional data across multiple business functions and legacy systems.
• Partner with business and technical teams to establish data ownership, migration requirements, mapping rules, validation criteria, and reconciliation processes.
• Coordinate multiple mock conversions and migration cycles leading up to production cutover.
• Ensure data quality issues and migration defects are identified, tracked, prioritized, and resolved.
• Support migration to SAP S/4HANA and other modern SAP environments.

Testing, Cutover & Go-Live

• Coordinate data migration activities with SIT, UAT, regression testing, cutover rehearsals, and production deployment.
• Develop and maintain detailed migration and cutover plans, including tasks, owners, dependencies, timelines, and contingency plans.
• Lead migration readiness reviews and ensure required approvals are obtained prior to production deployment.
• Coordinate business validation and reconciliation of converted data.
• Manage migration-related activities during go-live and hypercare.
• Track and resolve post-production data issues in collaboration with business and technical teams.

Stakeholder & Team Management

• Facilitate communication across business, functional, technical, data, and executive stakeholder groups.
• Lead project meetings, migration workshops, status meetings, risk reviews, and executive updates.
• Coordinate internal teams, client resources, SAP consultants, implementation partners, and third-party vendors.
• Translate complex technical and data migration issues into clear business impacts and action plans.
• Establish accountability for project deliverables, milestones, and issue resolution.

Documentation & Governance

• Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, RAID logs, status reports, migration plans, cutover plans, decision logs, and executive presentations.
• Establish project governance and reporting processes appropriate for large enterprise SAP initiatives.
• Ensure data migration processes comply with established data governance, security, quality, and audit requirements.
• Document lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of SAP implementation and migration methodologies.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Project Manager, preferably managing large-scale enterprise technology or ERP initiatives.
• Strong experience managing SAP implementation, transformation, or data migration projects.
• Demonstrated understanding of the complete SAP data migration lifecycle, including data extraction, profiling, cleansing, mapping, transformation, loading, validation, reconciliation, and cutover.
• Experience managing migration activities involving both master data and transactional data.
• Experience with SAP S/4HANA implementations or migrations strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with SAP data migration technologies and methodologies such as SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit, SAP Data Services/BODS, SAP Master Data Governance (MDG), LSMW, ETL tools, or similar migration solutions is preferred.
• Experience coordinating SIT, UAT, mock conversions, cutover rehearsals, go-live, and hypercare activities.

• Strong project management skills, including schedule management, risk management, issue resolution, resource planning, dependency management, and executive reporting.
• Experience working with system integrators, implementation partners, offshore/nearshore teams, and cross-functional business stakeholders.
• Experience in manufacturing, oil & gas, energy, chemicals, utilities, or other asset-intensive industries is preferred but not required.
• PMP, Agile, Scrum, SAP, or related certifications are a plus.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and senior executives.

Additional Notes

• This role is open to U.S.-based candidates only.
• This is primarily a Project Management role, but candidates must have significant hands-on experience leading SAP data migration workstreams.
• Candidates should be able to speak in detail about SAP data migration strategy, conversion cycles, data quality, reconciliation, cutover planning, and lessons learned from previous SAP implementations.
