Data Analyst

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Data Analyst 3 with a strong combination of financial analysis, data analytics, cloud cost management, and business intelligence skills. This role will focus on analyzing, modeling, and forecasting financial data related to Microsoft Azure cloud services and on-premises data center workloads.

The ideal candidate will use advanced Power BI, Power Query, DAX, Excel, data modeling, and financial analysis skills to support strategic decision-making, cloud migration planning, FinOps initiatives, and IT cost optimization.

The candidate will work closely with technical cloud teams, Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) teams, and finance stakeholders to translate complex technical and financial data into actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities

IT Financial & Cloud Cost Analysis

• Analyze and interpret IT financial data across Azure and VITA environments.
• Analyze cloud consumption, billing, chargeback, and cost allocation models.
• Perform monthly and annual IT spend analysis.
• Conduct variance analysis and identify spending anomalies.
• Identify cost optimization opportunities and potential savings.
• Analyze Azure workload utilization and cost drivers.
• Support financial forecasting and budget planning activities.

Power BI & Data Analytics

• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports.
• Use Power Query and DAX to transform, model, and analyze data.
• Create visualizations showing:
  • Azure cost trends
  • Server migration impacts
  • Workload utilization
  • Cost drivers
  • Optimization opportunities
  • Forecasting results
• Independently update datasets, perform queries, and manage Power BI data models.
• Ensure dashboards provide accurate and actionable information for technical teams and leadership.

Data Modeling & Data Management

• Maintain and enhance datasets from multiple heterogeneous sources.
• Work with data from:
  • Apptio
  • Azure Portal
  • SharePoint
  • IT financial systems
  • Cloud billing sources
• Perform data manipulation, transformation, cleansing, and validation.
• Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
• Develop and maintain data models supporting financial and operational analysis.
• Identify data quality issues and implement corrective actions.

Azure Migration & Workload Cost Modeling

• Support Azure migration planning through financial and workload analysis.
• Model server migration cost scenarios.
• Forecast reserve capacity requirements.
• Analyze on-premises versus Azure workload costs.
• Evaluate the financial impact of server migrations.
• Identify opportunities to optimize Azure resource utilization and spending.
• Support capacity planning and cloud financial forecasting.

FinOps & Cost Optimization

• Contribute to the organization's FinOps strategy.
• Analyze Azure utilization and cost patterns.
• Identify major cloud cost drivers.
• Provide recommendations for reducing unnecessary cloud spending.
• Support Azure Reserved Instance analysis and planning.
• Assist with Just-In-Time (JIT) capacity planning.
• Provide financial insights to support cloud governance and optimization decisions.

Documentation & Stakeholder Collaboration

• Document financial reporting and data analysis processes.
• Develop standard operating procedures and process documentation.
• Collaborate with cloud engineering, I&O, finance, and business stakeholders.
• Translate technical cloud and financial information into clear business insights.
• Present findings and recommendations to technical teams and management.
• Support leadership decision-making through accurate reporting and analysis.
