Unity Catalog serves as the governance backbone for Polaris 2.0, providing the authoritative layer for data definitions, ownership, lineage, and access control. Accurate, agreed-upon business definitions are essential for Gold-layer certification and for enabling business users to trust and independently use the platform.

The organization is currently collecting business definitions across multiple domains. Requests and approvals are managed through Excel templates and then manually uploaded to Unity Catalog. Stakeholders have found this process cumbersome and difficult to use, creating friction for teams responsible for supplying and validating definitions and slowing the overall rate of catalog population.

Several workstreams are progressing in parallel, each with distinct domain owners, data stewards, and timelines. Dedicated, detail-oriented coordination is required to manage these workstreams consistently and drive them to completion.

Business Objective

Populate Unity Catalog with approved definitions for all existing datasets by the end of Q3. The process must also support ongoing dataset onboarding by collecting business definitions alongside new requirements.

Scope of Work

The analyst will own the end-to-end process for collecting, validating, approving, and uploading business definitions while improving the experience for participating business stakeholders.

Process Improvement

• Assess the current Excel-based collection process and identify key friction points.
• Design and implement a more intuitive intake experience through improved templates, guided forms, or lightweight tooling.
• Document the end-to-end workflow for definition collection, review, approval, and upload.

Workstream Coordination

• Maintain a clear status tracker across active domain workstreams, including Communications, Operations, Finance, Marketing, Talent, and others.
• Proactively follow up with domain owners and data stewards to move definitions through review and approval.
• Escalate blockers and report progress to program leadership on a regular cadence.

Unity Catalog Population

• Upload validated business definitions to Unity Catalog accurately and consistently.
• Maintain quality standards by preventing duplicate definitions, applying consistent formatting, and assigning correct ownership.
• Confirm that uploaded definitions are correctly displayed and searchable in the catalog.

Stakeholder Enablement

• Facilitate working sessions with business teams to elicit, refine, and clarify definitions.
• Serve as a consistent and helpful point of contact for contributors, reducing confusion and encouraging participation.

Ideal Profile

• Experience in data governance, metadata management, or data-catalog tools; Unity Catalog experience is highly preferred.
• Exceptional attention to detail, with uncompromising accuracy in data entry, definition formatting, and status tracking.
• Strong process orientation and the ability to map, improve, and execute repeatable workflows across multiple concurrent workstreams.
• Excellent stakeholder communication and follow-through, with confidence working with non-technical business users to elicit and validate definitions.
• Proficiency in Excel and comfort with lightweight data tools; Unity Catalog experience is advantageous but not required.
• Prior experience in a fast-paced program environment involving multiple parallel workstreams is strongly preferred.
