Job Description

Job Title: Enterprise Solution Architect

Work Location: Remote

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

The Enterprise Solution Architect is a senior technical leader responsible for defining and guiding enterprise technology solutions that support complex business and operational requirements.

This role provides architectural leadership across application modernization, cloud platforms, systems integration, data, security, infrastructure, and enterprise technology standards. The Solution Architect works closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, project leadership, security teams, vendors, and partner agencies to ensure that solutions are secure, scalable, interoperable, maintainable, and aligned with organizational objectives.

The position requires broad technical expertise, strong architectural judgment, and the ability to translate business and functional requirements into practical enterprise solution designs.

Key Responsibilities:

Enterprise Architecture & Solution Design: Design and maintain enterprise and solution architectures for complex technology initiatives, translating business, functional, technical, security, and operational requirements into well-defined solution designs.

  • Develop current-state, future-state, and transitional architecture models and establish enterprise architecture principles, standards, reusable patterns, and reference architectures.
  • Evaluate technology options and recommend solutions based on scalability, security, maintainability, interoperability, cost, and long-term sustainability.
  • Ensure solution designs align with enterprise architecture, security, infrastructure, data, and technology governance standards.
  • Develop and maintain architecture diagrams, technical design documentation, decision records, and technology roadmaps.

Application Architecture & Modernization: Provide architectural guidance for enterprise applications, web applications, APIs, services, and distributed systems.

  • Assess legacy applications and recommend appropriate modernization strategies, including rehosting, replatforming, refactoring, rearchitecting, replacing, or retiring systems.
  • Identify technical debt, legacy dependencies, deprecated technologies, and architectural risks.
  • Define application architecture standards that support modularity, scalability, maintainability, security, and reuse.
  • Provide technical direction across modern development platforms and frameworks, including .NET, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, and related technologies.

Integration & API Architecture: Design enterprise integration solutions supporting communication between internal systems, external applications, cloud platforms, and third-party services.

  • Define appropriate integration patterns using REST APIs, web services, messaging, event-driven architecture, batch integration, and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Establish standards for API design, versioning, security, documentation, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Support integration technologies and platforms such as Azure API Management, Service Bus, Kafka, MuleSoft, Informatica, Boomi, or comparable enterprise solutions.
  • Identify and manage architectural dependencies associated with system interoperability and data exchange.

Cloud & Infrastructure Architecture: Design and provide guidance for cloud, hybrid-cloud, and on-premises enterprise solutions.

  • Support architecture across Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or comparable cloud environments.
  • Define appropriate use of infrastructure, platform, container, serverless, networking, storage, database, and monitoring services.
  • Ensure solutions address availability, scalability, resiliency, performance, backup, disaster recovery, and operational support requirements.
  • Support cloud governance, security, resource management, monitoring, and cost optimization practices.

Data Architecture: Provide architectural guidance for enterprise data platforms, databases, data integration, analytics, and reporting solutions.

  • Support relational and non-relational databases, data warehouses, data lakes, lakehouse platforms, and cloud-based data services.
  • Define standards for data modeling, data integration, metadata, data quality, lineage, retention, migration, and governance.
  • Ensure enterprise data solutions support security, integrity, availability, scalability, and reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with data teams to align application, integration, and enterprise data architectures.
  • Security & Identity Architecture: Incorporate security and privacy requirements throughout the solution architecture lifecycle.
  • Apply security-by-design, least-privilege, defense-in-depth, and zero-trust principles where appropriate.
  • Define architectural requirements for authentication, authorization, identity management, encryption, network security, application security, and API security.
  • Support identity and access technologies including Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, and related standards.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure solutions comply with applicable organizational, State, and regulatory security requirements.
  • Support security reviews, risk assessments, audit readiness, vulnerability remediation, and disaster recovery planning.

DevOps & Application Lifecycle Architecture: Provide architecture guidance for modern software development and delivery practices.

  • Support continuous integration, continuous delivery, automated testing, infrastructure as code, configuration management, and release management.
  • Promote consistent source control, branching, deployment, testing, and security practices across delivery teams.
  • Support platforms and tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and related technologies.
  • Ensure development and deployment processes support traceability, repeatability, security, and operational readiness.

Architecture Governance & Technical Leadership: Participate in architecture reviews, technical design reviews, and enterprise governance processes.

  • Review proposed solutions for alignment with established architecture standards and technology strategy.
  • Document technical decisions, assumptions, risks, dependencies, and architectural exceptions.
  • Provide technical guidance to development, infrastructure, data, security, and integration teams.
  • Facilitate technical discussions and architecture workshops across business and technology stakeholders.
  • Identify architectural risks early and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
  • Promote consistency, reuse, standardization, and sustainable technology practices across projects.

Stakeholder & Vendor Collaboration: Work collaboratively with business teams, technical teams, project leadership, vendors, and external partners.

  • Support technology evaluations, vendor assessments, solution reviews, and proof-of-concept activities.
  • Review vendor-proposed architectures and validate alignment with enterprise technical and security standards.
  • Communicate architectural concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support resolution of cross-team technical dependencies and architecture-related issues.
