Our client is seeking an Senior AWS Cloud Engineer to join their team. This is a hands-on individual contributor role responsible for designing, building, and supporting secure, scalable, resilient, and supportable AWS platforms for business-critical applications and enterprise services. The role combines cloud architecture leadership with senior-level software development, technical design, implementation, code review, testing, and production support. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop production-quality services, APIs, background workers, event handlers, integrations, and automation using modern engineering practices. 
• Design and implement AWS solutions using services such as ECS/Fargate, Lambda, API Gateway, ALB, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, CloudFront, Route 53, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch, and VPC networking. 
• Mentor developers and promote consistent cloud, integration, security, and operational engineering practices. 
• Support production incidents, root-cause analysis, technical debt reduction, capacity planning, and post-incident improvements. 
• Partner with security, identity, network, data, quality assurance, and platform teams to complete architecture and security reviews. 
• Define non-functional requirements for latency, throughput, availability, disaster recovery, security, auditability, and supportability. 
• Lead code reviews, technical design reviews, testing strategy, debugging, performance tuning, and production issue resolution. 
• Review solution designs, infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, API specifications, data models, logging, monitoring, and production-readiness checklists. 
• Create and maintain architecture diagrams, sequence diagrams, data-flow diagrams, API contracts, threat models, and operational runbooks. 
• Establish reference patterns for synchronous APIs, asynchronous events, scheduled workers, batch processing, and file-based integrations. 
• Define target-state cloud architectures for applications, integrations, data flows, and operational tooling. 

Expectations:

• The contractor will collaborate across engineering, product, infrastructure, security, data, quality assurance, and operations stakeholders. 
• This is a full-time contract role requiring onsite work five days per week. 

Years of Experience:

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud architecture, infrastructure, or solution architecture, including 4+ years designing and operating AWS solutions. 

Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable):

• Demonstrated hands-on experience developing and delivering production-grade applications and services using at least one modern technology stack, such as Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, AWS cloud services, or an equivalent platform. 
• Experience supporting production systems with incident management, root-cause analysis, and operational runbooks. 
• Experience working through enterprise security, identity, network, privacy, compliance, and architecture-review processes. 
• Strong background in observability using CloudWatch or comparable tools, structured logging, metrics, traces, dashboards, and alerting. 
• Experience with unit testing, integration testing, automated quality gates, secure coding, code review, and agile delivery practices. 
• Experience with infrastructure as code using CloudFormation, Terraform, or an equivalent platform. 
• Experience with at least one relational database platform, preferably PostgreSQL or SQL Server, and familiarity with migration, replication, backup, and recovery. 
• Experience designing REST APIs, webhooks, message-based integrations, batch/file interfaces, authentication, authorization, versioning, and data contracts. 
• Strong understanding of event-driven and distributed-system design, including queues, retries, idempotency, dead-letter handling, replay, eventual consistency, and reconciliation. 
• Experience architecting and implementing containerized platforms using ECS/Fargate, Docker, ECR, ALB, and production CI/CD pipelines. 
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS networking, IAM, VPCs, private connectivity, load balancing, DNS, encryption, and secrets management. 
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud architecture, infrastructure, or solution architecture, including 4+ years designing and operating AWS solutions. 

Nice-to-Have Qualifications (Desired but Not Required):

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or comparable certification. 
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD, Jira, Confluence, Splunk, or similar engineering and observability platforms. 
• Experience designing AI-assisted operational tooling, retrieval-augmented knowledge systems, or automated incident diagnostics. 
• Experience with data lakes, analytics platforms, business intelligence, data contracts, and operational reporting. 
• Experience with Kafka, Kinesis, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, or other streaming and event platforms. 
• Experience with RDS cross-region recovery, VPC Flow Logs, AWS Network Firewall, PrivateLink, Transit Gateway, or equivalent enterprise networking patterns. 
• Experience with AWS migration from on-premises or vendor-hosted platforms. 

Education & Certification Requirements:

• AWS certification is preferred but not required. 
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered. 

Preferred Industry Experience:

• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise applications, cloud platforms, and distributed systems is preferred.  

Salary/Rate: $65-$80/HR (depends on experience level). This is a contract position with candidates expected to work 40 hours/ week.
