Job Description

Role Overview

Client is seeking a Network Engineer to support an on-site voice and network infrastructure rollout at a regulated enterprise facility. This hands-on role involves staging and installing telecom hardware, deploying IP endpoints, and supporting the cutover of legacy analog systems to a modern voice network. The role is critical to ensuring a smooth transition of telecom infrastructure with minimal disruption to daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Unbox, inventory, rack, cable, and power on network and collaboration hardware — including voice routers, high-density analog gateways, compute servers, and PoE switches — across data centers and telecom closets
  • Deploy physical IP phones to user desks, patch into data jacks or PoE adapters, enter activation codes, and verify phone registration on the network
  • Assist telecom technicians with physical cross-connects between legacy terminal blocks and voice gateway ports, and test physical dial tone across facility phones, hotline/PLAR units, and paging amplifiers
  • Execute on-site test scripts covering basic dial tone, inbound/outbound calling, feature testing (hold, transfer, conference), voicemail message-waiting indicators, and emergency line dial checks
  • Maintain physical asset tracking spreadsheets (MAC addresses, serial numbers, port assignments, and desk locations) and report daily progress to the Project Manager

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on, working knowledge of structured cabling standards (CAT5e/6, RJ45, RJ11, 25-pair/50-pin RJ21 amphenol connectors)
  • Ability to use basic field testing tools, including cable testers, tone generators, and test sets for analog line verification
  • Basic familiarity with IP phone onboarding, LCD menu navigation, and activation code provisioning
  • Basic CLI and web GUI familiarity to verify link status, interface states, and gateway port LED indicators
  • Basic understanding of Power over Ethernet (PoE) and long-reach Ethernet adapters
  • High proficiency in Excel/spreadsheets to accurately record serial numbers, MAC addresses, port mappings, and testing results
  • Proven track record of strictly adhering to enterprise facility safety rules, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and secure facility access protocols
  • Punctual, organized, and physically capable of handling equipment movement, racking, and desk-to-desk hardware rollouts
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface courteously with on-site customer staff, facility operators, and local cabling contractors
  • Ability to follow step-by-step technical instructions from remote senior engineering leads without skipping procedural safeguards
  • Fluent English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Diploma or degree in Computer Systems Networking, Telecommunications Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent field experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or a relevant network technician certification
  • Vendor cabling or telecom technician certifications are an asset

Tools & Technologies

  • Enterprise IP telephony systems and analog voice gateways
  • Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches and long-reach Ethernet adapters
  • Structured cabling systems (CAT5e/6, RJ45/RJ11, RJ21 amphenol)
  • Cable testers, tone generators, and analog test/butt sets
  • Microsoft Excel for asset and inventory tracking
