About the Role:

The Scientific Project Manager supports the planning, coordination, and execution of scientific, technical, and data-focused projects. The role combines project-management responsibilities with hands-on support for scientific data operations, documentation, workflow coordination, and cross-functional delivery.

The Scientific Project Manager serves as a bridge between scientific subject matter experts, technical teams, project leadership, customers, and other stakeholders. The position is responsible for helping translate project goals and requirements into organized, actionable work; maintaining visibility into priorities and deliverables; coordinating activities across team members; and supporting the accurate and efficient management of scientific data and related processes.

The balance between project management and scientific-data responsibilities may vary based on project requirements.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Project Management and Operational Coordination

  • Support planning and execution of scientific and technical projects using established project management and Agile delivery practices.
  • Translate project objectives, customer requirements, stakeholder feedback, and team decisions into actionable activities, milestones, schedules, and work items.
  • Coordinate activities across scientific, technical, data, development, and other cross-functional team members.
  • Support sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and other recurring delivery activities, as applicable.
  • Maintain project-management systems and ensure work items reflect current priorities, ownership, status, dependencies, and completion criteria.
  • Track milestones, schedules, risks, issues, dependencies, decisions, action items, and deliverables.
  • Proactively follow up on assigned activities and identify work that is delayed, blocked, or requires clarification.
  • Support evaluation of competing priorities and sequencing of work based on project objectives, dependencies, and available resources.
  • Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas and supporting materials, document decisions and action items, and track follow-up through completion.
  • Maintain organized and current project documentation.
  • Support preparation of project status reports, customer updates, presentations, and other project communications.
  • Identify project risks or operational concerns and escalate issues to appropriate project or organizational leadership.
  • Support testing, quality-assurance, User Acceptance Testing, release coordination, or other validation activities as applicable to the project.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of project processes, templates, workflows, and delivery practices.

Scientific Data Management and Operations

  • Support coordination, organization, and management of scientific and technical data throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist with scientific data onboarding, extraction, transformation, curation, quality review, and integration activities.
  • Support development and maintenance of reproducible and scalable data-management workflows.
  • Coordinate scientific data activities across subject matter experts, analysts, developers, data specialists, and other project personnel.
  • Support metadata organization, terminology harmonization, controlled vocabularies, data standards, and related data-governance activities.
  • Maintain documentation supporting scientific data traceability, quality, and reproducibility.
  • Assist with maintenance of data dictionaries, process documentation, workflow diagrams, and related scientific or technical artifacts.
  • Support scientific quality-control activities and coordinate resolution of data questions, discrepancies, or required corrections.
  • Assist with evaluation and organization of external scientific data sources and repositories.
  • Support interoperability activities involving scientific databases, APIs, ontologies, metadata standards, or other external systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, consistency, scalability, and transparency of scientific data processes.
  • Assist with preparation of scientific reports, presentations, briefing materials, demonstrations, and other project deliverables.
  • Support scientific stakeholder engagement and coordination activities as required by individual project needs.

Required Professional Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a scientific, technical, data, project management, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating projects, scientific operations, laboratory operations, research activities, data workflows, technical operations, or comparable multidisciplinary work.
