Job Summary
 
We are looking for an experienced Java Kafka Developer to join our development team in Calgary, AB. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in Core Java and Apache Kafka, with a solid understanding of backend application development, event-driven architecture, and distributed systems.
The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, integrating, and supporting scalable Java-based applications and Kafka streaming solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Core Java.
  • Develop and integrate Apache Kafkaproducers and consumers for real-time event streaming.
  • Build reliable, high-performance applications using object-oriented design and Java best practices.
  • Work with Kafka topics, partitions, consumer groups, offsets, and message processing.
  • Troubleshoot application and Kafka-related issues and optimize system performance.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, testing, and production support.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, QA teams, business analysts, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop clean, maintainable, reusable, and well-documented code.
  • Support application integration and deployment across different environments.
Required Technical Skills
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java / Core Java.
  • Excellent understanding of OOP, Collections, Exception Handling, Multithreading, and Concurrency.
  • Experience with Java 8+ features including Streams and Lambda expressions.
  • Strong experience with Apache Kafka.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Kafka Producers, Consumers, Topics, Partitions, Consumer Groups, and Offset Management.
  • Understanding of Kafka event-driven architecture and asynchronous processing.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Experience with REST APIs and backend application development.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases.
  • Familiarity with Git, Maven/Gradle, and Agile development practices.
Good to Have
  • Experience with Spring / Spring Boot.
  • Experience with Microservices architecture.
  • Knowledge of Kafka monitoring, performance tuning, replication, and fault tolerance.
  • Experience with Docker/Kubernetes or cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with JUnit/Mockito.
  • Experience working in large enterprise environments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of Java development experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Core Java and Kafka.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative development environment.
