Job Description About the Role
Candidates must have direct business development experience in the locum tenens or physician staffing industry to be considered for this position.
Preferred Solutions (PS) is seeking an experienced, results-driven Business Development Manager to help accelerate the growth of our physician-led specialty healthcare services business.
PS partners with hospitals and health systems across the country to build, stabilize, and support specialty physician programs. Our approach combines physician expertise, operational infrastructure, and long-term partnership to help healthcare organizations address physician workforce challenges, improve access to care, and support the growth and sustainability of specialty service lines.
We are looking for a proven sales professional with direct experience in physician staffing or locum tenens who understands the healthcare staffing landscape, knows how to develop relationships with hospital and health system decision-makers, and has a demonstrated track record of generating new business.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing role with responsibility for independently identifying, developing, and closing new client opportunities while also supporting the expansion and retention of existing client relationships.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who brings an established, repeatable approach to business development. We want someone who can develop and execute a thoughtful plan for generating new business, manage their pipeline with discipline, and take ownership of results without requiring constant direction.
The Business Development Manager will work closely with the President of Medical Group Services and PS's clinical, operational, and physician recruiting leadership. While the role will benefit from collaboration and executive support, the expectation is that the individual will independently drive meaningful business development activity and revenue growth.
PS operates on the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), including weekly Level 10 meetings and business development scorecards. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in an accountable, metrics-driven environment where results, follow-through, and continuous improvement are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Revenue Generation
  • Independently identify, prospect, develop, and secure new business opportunities with hospitals, health systems, and other healthcare organizations.
  • Develop and execute a structured, repeatable business development plan designed to consistently generate qualified opportunities and profitable revenue growth.
  • Own the full sales cycle, including prospect identification, outreach, qualification, discovery, proposal development, negotiations, contracting, and transition to operations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with hospital executives, physician leaders, recruiters, and other key decision-makers.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships into additional clinical specialties, service lines, and coverage arrangements.
  • Collaborate with PS leadership to develop commercially sound solutions that address client needs while supporting the Company's financial objectives.
  • Consistently advance opportunities through the sales pipeline and demonstrate measurable results in new business generation.
Client Relationship Management & Retention
  • Serve as a primary commercial point of contact for assigned clients throughout the duration of the partnership.
  • Develop strong, multi-level relationships with client stakeholders to support long-term retention, satisfaction, and growth.
  • Proactively identify client needs, operational challenges, and opportunities to expand PS's services.
  • Coordinate with Medical Operations, Business Operations, Physician Recruiting, and clinical leadership to support successful program execution and resolve client concerns.
  • Participate in quarterly business reviews, renewal planning, and other structured client engagement activities.
  • Maintain awareness of contract terms, renewal timelines, and client relationship health to support proactive retention efforts.
Targeting, Market Intelligence & Pipeline Development
  • Develop and maintain a prioritized target market strategy focused on hospitals and health systems with physician staffing and specialty service-line needs.
  • Leverage ZoomInfo, CRM system(s), healthcare market intelligence, and other available tools to identify decision-makers, evaluate opportunities, and support targeted outreach.
  • Research prospective clients to understand organizational structure, specialty coverage needs, staffing challenges, and potential opportunities.
  • Develop and execute coordinated outreach strategies, including direct prospecting, email campaigns, networking, referrals, and other appropriate business development channels.
  • Build and maintain a healthy pipeline of qualified opportunities that supports individual and Company growth objectives.
  • Continuously evaluate outreach effectiveness, conversion rates, and pipeline performance to refine the business development process.
  • Bring new ideas, tools, and proven sales practices that strengthen PSH's overall business development capabilities.
Sales Process, Data & Performance Management
  • Maintain accurate and complete CRM records, including prospect information, opportunity stages, estimated economics, next steps, and expected timelines.
  • Establish and consistently follow a disciplined process for prospecting, opportunity management, follow-up, and forecasting.
  • Track and report agreed-upon business development scorecard metrics and weekly EOS Level 10 measurables.
  • Maintain visibility into pipeline activity, expected revenue opportunities, and potential obstacles to closing business.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail in client communications, proposals, commercial discussions, and internal coordination.
  • Take ownership of commitments and consistently follow through on assigned responsibilities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve sales processes, data quality, reporting, and overall business development effectiveness.
Team Collaboration & Organizational Alignment
  • Work collaboratively with the President of Medical Group Services and other Business Development team members to pursue and secure new opportunities.
  • Coordinate closely with clinical leadership, Physician Recruiting, Business Operations, and Medical Operations to ensure proposed solutions are operationally and clinically achievable.
  • Support a collaborative sales environment where team members share information, contribute to opportunities, and work toward common Company objectives.
  • Represent PS professionally and credibly in all interactions with clients, prospective clients, physicians, and industry partners.
  • Consistently demonstrate PS's core values: Client First, Do the Right Thing, Carry Your Own Water, and Win as a TEAM.
