Technical Scrum Master (Infrastructure)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Scrum Master to support highly technical teams working across IT infrastructure, systems engineering, database, and related technology environments.

This role does not require someone to be a systems or database engineer. However, the ideal candidate will have enough technical exposure to understand infrastructure-related work, communicate effectively with engineers, identify blockers, and confidently drive teams toward commitments and deliverables.

We are looking for more than someone who schedules meetings and tracks Jira tickets. This person needs to actively lead the Agile process, hold teams accountable, challenge roadblocks, and keep technical work moving forward.

Hybrid in New Albany, OH. Local candidates only.

$60-70 an hour pay range (W2).

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Agile/Scrum ceremonies for technical engineering teams operating in two-week sprint cycles.

• Facilitate sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies.

• Partner closely with infrastructure, systems, database, cloud, and other technical engineering teams.

• Drive sprint commitments and maintain visibility into deliverables, dependencies, risks, and blockers.

• Proactively identify and remove obstacles affecting team delivery.

• Hold team members and stakeholders accountable for commitments and follow-through.

• Use Jira to manage sprint activity, backlog items, priorities, dependencies, and delivery progress.

• Coordinate both planned project work and unexpected operational or production issues.

• Communicate effectively with engineers, technical leaders, project stakeholders, and management.

• Challenge assumptions, escalate issues when appropriate, and drive teams toward clear decisions and next steps.

• Help improve Agile processes, team effectiveness, delivery predictability, and overall execution.

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience as a Scrum Master, Technical Scrum Master, Agile Delivery Lead, or Technical Delivery Manager.

• Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies and experience working within two-week sprint cycles.

• Hands-on experience with Jira.

• Previous experience supporting highly technical teams, preferably within:

  • IT infrastructure

  • Systems engineering

  • Database engineering

  • Cloud infrastructure

  • Platform or enterprise technology

• Exposure to technical environments involving technologies such as Windows, Linux, VMware, SQL Server, Oracle, backup/data protection, or cloud platforms.

• Ability to understand technical discussions without needing to personally engineer the underlying solutions.

• Experience balancing planned project deliverables with unplanned technical or operational issues.

• Strong communication, facilitation, organization, and problem-solving skills.

The ideal candidate can command a room, ask difficult questions, push for clear answers, and hold both engineers and technical leaders accountable. They should be comfortable challenging the team when commitments are at risk while maintaining productive working relationships.

This is not a passive Scrum Master position. We need someone who takes ownership of delivery, removes roadblocks, creates accountability, and continuously drives the team forward.

Ideal Background

The strongest candidate will have previously served as a Scrum Master supporting infrastructure, database, systems, cloud, or platform engineering teams and will bring a direct, take-charge approach to Agile delivery.

Candidates with titles such as Technical Scrum Master, Infrastructure Scrum Master, Agile Delivery Lead, or Technical Delivery Manager may be particularly well aligned.
