Job Description

Job Description Job Description

We are hiring a Data Center Technician I for our night shift. You will be one of the people responsible for the facility overnight: walking rounds, watching the building management system, performing preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment, and responding first when something alarms. This is an entry-level position with structured training and opportunity for advancement. You will train on day shift for your first weeks, then move to nights with an experienced technician alongside you.

SCHEDULE

  • Night shift, 8:00 PM - 8:00 AM, 12-hour shifts
  • Rotating 4-on/3-off, then 3-on/4-off (every other week is a 3-day weekend, and the rotation includes scheduled overtime)
  • Weekends and holidays are part of the rotation

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Walk scheduled rounds of the electrical and mechanical plant; record readings and document findings; report anything out of normal
  • Monitor the building management system (BMS) and respond to alarms following written procedures
  • Perform preventive maintenance on UPS systems, batteries, generators, switchgear, PDUs, CRAC/CRAH units, and chillers under the direction of senior technicians
  • Assist with customer "smart hands" requests - rack and stack, cabling, power connections - and basic Colo+ service tickets
  • Follow lockout/tagout, arc-flash, and confined-space procedures without exception
  • Keep accurate logs and work orders in our CMMS
  • Escort and support vendors and contractors working on site
  • Maintain a clean, organized facility

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience in data center / critical facility operations, commercial or industrial electrical, HVAC/mechanical, military power or mechanical systems, or a comparable technical trade - data center experience itself is not required
  • High school diploma or GED; technical school certificate or associate degree is a plus
  • Comfortable working nights on a rotating schedule for the long term
  • Mechanically inclined, careful, and methodical - you read the procedure before you touch the equipment
  • Professional and customer-facing: you will interact with colocation customers and their vendors
  • Able to communicate clearly in writing (logs, work orders, shift handoff notes)
  • Basic computer skills; able to learn a BMS and a CMMS
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

NICE TO HAVE

  • OSHA 10 or 30, EPA 608, NFPA 70E, CompTIA A+ or Network+, CDCTP, or a trade license
  • Experience with generators, UPS, switchgear, or chillers
  • Prior night-shift or 24/7 operations experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Walk and stand for extended periods; climb ladders; work in mechanical rooms and on the roof
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Work around loud equipment with appropriate PPE
  • Pass a pre-employment background check

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Competitive hourly base pay, based on experience and certifications
  • Scheduled overtime built into the rotation
  • Medical, dental and vision coverage; short- and long-term disability; paid time off
  • Structured training and opportunity for advancement
