Job Description

Overview

A growing managed technology services provider is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to lead the design, deployment, and support of enterprise networking and cybersecurity solutions across a diverse client base and hosted infrastructure environments.

This individual will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for maintaining complex network architectures, driving infrastructure standardization initiatives, and supporting security operations efforts. The role combines hands-on engineering, strategic planning, and operational ownership for technologies spanning routing, switching, firewalls, SD-WAN, wireless networking, endpoint security, and cloud-delivered security services.

You will work closely with leadership and fellow engineers to improve scalability, reliability, monitoring, security posture, and operational processes while acting as an escalation point for advanced networking challenges.

What You'll Accomplish Early On

During your first few months, you'll be expected to assess the current environment and begin driving measurable improvements, including:

  • Reviewing network and security configurations across customer environments
  • Establishing centralized management standards for network infrastructure
  • Expanding network visibility, alerting, and performance monitoring capabilities
  • Developing lifecycle and refresh recommendations for networking equipment
  • Improving circuit monitoring, incident response processes, and security alert quality

Key Responsibilities

Network Infrastructure & Security

  • Design, deploy, and support enterprise firewall, routing, switching, and wireless solutions
  • Manage high-availability environments and SD-WAN implementations
  • Maintain secure remote access, segmentation, VPN, and Zero Trust initiatives
  • Serve as a senior escalation resource for complex network and security incidents
  • Partner with internal and external technical teams on deployments and remediation efforts

Data Center & Hosted Environments

  • Support critical infrastructure hosted within colocation and data center facilities
  • Execute planned maintenance activities, upgrades, migrations, and failover testing
  • Participate in structured change management processes and documentation practices
  • Ensure configuration consistency, resilience, and operational readiness

Security Operations Collaboration

  • Work alongside external security monitoring partners and internal stakeholders
  • Assist with log collection, security integrations, onboarding activities, and alert optimization
  • Investigate actionable security events and coordinate remediation efforts
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in detection and response capabilities

Process Improvement & Standards

  • Lead infrastructure onboarding and technical assessments for new client environments
  • Develop documentation standards and operational procedures
  • Support centralized management and automation initiatives
  • Create and maintain policies for patching, firmware updates, backups, and configuration management
  • Establish reporting and monitoring practices that improve service reliability and visibility

Technical Environment

The environment includes enterprise-class firewalls, routing and switching technologies, wireless platforms, SD-WAN solutions, security monitoring tools, endpoint management platforms, documentation systems, and cloud services.

Candidates should be comfortable supporting multi-vendor environments and evaluating existing infrastructures while recommending modernization strategies where appropriate.

Qualifications

We are more interested in proven technical capability than job titles. Candidates who have independently designed, implemented, and supported production network environments are encouraged to apply.

Required Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience supporting enterprise firewall platforms in production environments
  • Deep understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals
  • Experience with routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF
  • Expertise in VLANs, switching, VPN technologies, DNS, and DHCP
  • Experience developing or improving infrastructure standards, procedures, and best practices
  • Background implementing centralized management and monitoring solutions
  • Experience working with security operations, managed security providers, or SOC teams
  • Exposure to data center operations and formal change control processes

Preferred Experience

  • Managed Services Provider (MSP) experience
  • SD-WAN deployments and cloud security technologies
  • Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) initiatives
  • Network monitoring and performance management platforms
  • ISP/vendor management experience
  • Microsoft Azure networking knowledge

Certifications

Industry certifications related to networking or cybersecurity are valued, including advanced vendor-specific networking certifications. Practical experience and demonstrated results carry greater weight than certifications alone.
