Senior Systems Administrator – Cloud & Infrastructure (NYS Government) | 30-Month Contract | Onsite Albany, NY

About the Role
We’re seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to support a New York State government agency on a long-term engagement. You’ll manage Windows and Linux server environments across on-premises, virtualized, and cloud infrastructure. You’ll also run Kubernetes clusters, build high-availability configurations, and automate server provisioning and administration. This is a 30-month contract based onsite in Albany, NY from Day 1.

Responsibilities

• Administer enterprise Windows Server and Linux (RHEL, SUSE, Ubuntu) environments, including installation, configuration, patching, and version upgrades
• Provision, upgrade, and troubleshoot Kubernetes or equivalent container orchestration clusters
• Manage server workloads hosted in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
• Design and maintain high-availability configurations: clustering, failover, replication, and backup/restore
• Configure and govern privileged and administrative access
• Automate server provisioning and administration with Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform, PowerShell, or Bash
• Apply security baselines and remediate vulnerability scan findings
• Monitor server health and performance with enterprise monitoring and alerting tools
• Administer virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere/ESXi, Hyper-V, Proxmox, Nutanix AHV, or OpenShift Virtualization), covering host configuration, VM provisioning, storage and network assignment, and resource management

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years administering Windows Server operating systems in an enterprise environment
• 7+ years administering Linux server operating systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE, or Ubuntu) in an enterprise environment, including installation, configuration, patching, and version upgrades
• 5+ years administering Kubernetes or an equivalent container orchestration platform, including cluster provisioning, component upgrades, and troubleshooting
• 6+ years administering server operating systems hosted in a public or private cloud (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform)
• 6+ years implementing and maintaining high-availability configurations (clustering, failover, replication, or backup and restore)
• 6+ years configuring and administering privileged and administrative access
• 5+ years using infrastructure automation or configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform, PowerShell, or Bash) to provision or administer servers
• 5+ years applying security baselines and remediating vulnerability scan findings
• 5+ years using enterprise monitoring and alerting tools to track server health and performance
• 6+ years administering enterprise virtualization or hypervisor platforms (VMware vSphere/ESXi, Hyper-V, Proxmox VE, Nutanix AHV, or Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization)
