(UC) Unified Communications Server Engineer

About the Role We're looking for a UC Server Engineer to provide hands-on engineering support for the installation, maintenance, and lifecycle management of servers underpinning our Cisco telephony environment. This role is focused specifically on the server infrastructure behind our Unified Communications platform — not general IT infrastructure — and requires deep, practical experience with Cisco CUCM, Unity Connection, and the UCS/Intersight environment that hosts them.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unity Connection, and related call processing servers
• Perform server builds, OS-level patching, and platform upgrades for telephony application servers, including cluster configuration and failover setup
• Manage server capacity planning, resource allocation, and performance tuning across the telephony server estate
• Monitor server health, uptime, and system logs; resolve hardware or software issues affecting call processing
• Administer virtualized telephony servers (VMware/UCS), including provisioning, snapshots, and resource pools
• Manage and maintain Cisco UCS server infrastructure in Intersight Managed Mode (IMM), including server profiles, policies, and firmware compliance
• Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks to automate server provisioning, configuration management, and routine maintenance across the telephony server estate
• Coordinate hardware and firmware maintenance with vendors, including replacement, upgrades, and end-of-life planning
• Maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures for telephony servers, including DRS backups and restore testing
• Support integration between telephony servers and adjacent systems: SBCs, gateways, voicemail, and call recording platforms
• Document server architecture, build standards, and maintenance procedures
• Provide root cause analysis and escalation support for server-related incidents impacting telephony services
• Collaborate with the UC Tier II/III/SME Engineer and networking teams to align server infrastructure with broader collaboration architecture Required Qualifications
• Strong hands-on experience installing and maintaining Cisco CUCM, Cisco Unity Connection, and IM & Presence servers
• Proficiency with Cisco UCS server hardware and VMware virtualization for telephony workloads
• Hands-on experience managing Cisco UCS infrastructure via Cisco Intersight, including Intersight Managed Mode (IMM) for server profile configuration, firmware management, and policy-based provisioning
• Experience with server OS administration (Linux-based appliance OS for Cisco UC applications)
• Solid understanding of telephony protocols: SIP, H.323, MGoogle Cloud Platform, SCCP
• Experience with Cisco Unified Serviceability, RTMT, and Disaster Recovery System (DRS) tools
• Familiarity with clustering, redundancy, and failover design for high-availability telephony platforms
• Knowledge of storage and backup practices as they apply to telephony application servers
• Scripting/automation experience (Ansible, PowerShell, Python, or similar) for server provisioning, configuration management, and reporting
• Working knowledge of Ansible for automating repeatable infrastructure tasks and enforcing configuration consistency across the telephony server environment
• Strong troubleshooting skills, with a focus on root-cause analysis for server-level incidents
• Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
