Job description

Bicester | £50,000 + £6,000 annual car allowance + mileage

Completed an engineering apprenticeship, worked on the tools and moved into mechanical design?

This role brings that experience together: developing new engineering solutions, improving existing products and producing designs that can be manufactured and installed.

Verteer Consulting is recruiting for an industrial engineering business in Bicester. You'll support external customer projects, working closely with engineering sales, the workshop and an existing designer.

The work

Projects are varied, including platforms, staircases, reverse engineering and improvements to existing products and equipment. You'll need the ability to develop a design from scratch and turn a customer's requirement into a practical engineering solution.

You'll be:

  • Developing new design concepts and improving the function of existing products.
  • Producing CAD models and detailed engineering drawings for manufacture.
  • Applying your practical experience to materials, manufacturing methods, assembly and installation.
  • Working with workshop colleagues to resolve design and manufacturing queries.
  • Visiting customer sites when required to discuss their requirements.
  • Sharing expertise and workload with the existing designer as projects demand.

What you'll bring

  • An engineering apprenticeship and practical experience working on the tools.
  • Mechanical CAD/design experience, with examples of designs that have been manufactured.
  • The ability to develop solutions from an initial requirement through to detailed design.
  • A practical understanding of how components and assemblies are made and fitted.
  • Clear communication with customers and engineering colleagues.
  • A driving licence is essential, as the role includes customer site visits.

SolidWorks experience is preferred, although experience with other CAD packages will be considered. Previous customer site experience would also be advantageous.

Your background could include machining, toolmaking, mechanical fitting, fabrication or another relevant engineering trade, followed by a move into design.

The package

  • £50,000 annual salary.
  • £500 per month car allowance.
  • Additional mileage payments.
  • Start as soon as practical, allowing for your notice period.

You'll need a workable commute to Bicester. Ideally, you'll live within a 30–45-minute drive, although this is flexible for the right candidate.
