This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their skills and build a long-term career within a well-established business. We're not necessarily looking for someone with years of sales experience or an extensive knowledge of the steel industry. What's more important to us is finding someone with the right attitude, a willingness to learn and a genuine interest in understanding our customers, products and business. Working alongside an experienced sales team, you'll be given the time, support and training to develop your knowledge and confidence, gradually taking on greater responsibility as your experience grows.

Key Tasks could include:

  • Respond to customer enquiries and prepare quotations.
  • Process customer orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with existing customers.
  • Follow up quotations and identify potential sales opportunities.
  • Develop an understanding of our products, pricing and processing capabilities.
  • Work closely with colleagues across sales, purchasing and operations.
  • Support the wider sales team in delivering excellent customer service.
  • Gradually develop commercial awareness and an understanding of profitable sales.

We offer you

  • Competitive salary depending on experience.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Annual Cycle to work scheme
  • Life assurance
  • Company discount scheme for savings on retail and leisure
  • Access to Health & Wellbeing Services
  • Barrett Steel pension
  • opportunities for development and career progression.

All About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a positive attitude and is keen to learn.
  • Communicates confidently and professionally.
  • Enjoys working with people and building relationships.
  • Is organised, reliable and pays attention to detail.
  • Works well as part of a team.
  • Has a proactive approach and takes pride in their work.
  • Is comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • Is comfortable using computers and willing to learn new systems and processes.
  • Is naturally curious, willing to ask questions and keen to develop their knowledge.
  • Ideally has some experience in sales, customer service or administration, although this isn't essential.

Previous experience within the steel industry would be advantageous but is certainly not a requirement. Full training and support will be provided.

How it feels to work for us

At C Roberts Steel, we believe our people are key to our success. We're a busy, hardworking business where teamwork, commitment and a positive attitude really matter. As part of the Barrett Steel Group, we offer the stability and opportunities of a well-established national business, whilst maintaining the close-knit feel of a local team. We understand that everyone must start somewhere, and we don't expect you to know everything from day one. We'll invest time in helping you understand our products, customers and the wider business, giving you the support and confidence to develop at your own pace. We're looking for someone who wants to become part of the team, take pride in what they do and build a successful, long-term career with us.
