Job Description

  • Lead the end-to-end design, configuration, implementation, and optimization of Workday Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking solutions for large and complex enterprise environments.
  • Serve as the Workday Payroll Solution Architect and Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing functional and technical guidance throughout implementations, enhancements, production support, and transformation initiatives.
  • Partner with HR, Payroll, Finance, Benefits, Time & Attendance, and IT stakeholders to gather requirements and translate complex business needs into scalable Workday solution designs.
  • Architect Workday Payroll solutions covering earnings, deductions, pay components, payroll calculations, tax configurations, costing, retroactive processing, off-cycle payroll, settlements, and payroll accounting.
  • Design and configure Workday Absence and Time Tracking processes, including time entry, time calculations, eligibility rules, accruals, time-off plans, leave programs, validations, and approval workflows.
  • Lead solution design and architecture workshops, evaluate alternative approaches, identify downstream impacts, and drive stakeholders toward effective design decisions.
  • Analyze existing payroll and HR processes and recommend Workday best practices, process improvements, automation opportunities, and configuration simplification.
  • Define functional architecture and ensure alignment across Workday HCM, Payroll, Absence, Time Tracking, Benefits, Compensation, Security, Reporting, and Integrations.
  • Collaborate with integration teams on payroll-related interfaces involving benefit vendors, tax providers, banking systems, time systems, finance applications, and other third-party platforms.
  • Provide functional requirements and validation for integrations using EIB, Core Connectors, Workday Studio, APIs/Web Services, and other Workday integration technologies.
  • Develop and validate calculated fields, custom reports, payroll reconciliation reports, audit reports, and operational dashboards supporting payroll processing and compliance.
  • Lead payroll data conversion activities, including data mapping, validation, reconciliation, historical payroll data, balances, and year-to-date (YTD) conversion.
  • Develop comprehensive testing strategies covering unit testing, system integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT), parallel payroll testing, regression testing, and production validation.
  • Lead payroll parallel testing and reconciliation, analyze variances, identify root causes, and coordinate corrective actions before production deployment.
  • Troubleshoot complex Workday Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking issues by performing root-cause analysis across configuration, business processes, security, integrations, and data.
  • Provide architectural guidance for Workday releases, new functionality, enhancements, and regulatory or business-driven payroll changes.
  • Ensure Workday solutions comply with organizational standards related to security, internal controls, audit requirements, data privacy, and payroll compliance.
  • Manage multiple Workday initiatives simultaneously while maintaining alignment with project scope, milestones, dependencies, risks, and delivery timelines.
  • Work closely with senior leadership, business owners, implementation partners, and cross-functional teams to communicate solution recommendations, risks, dependencies, and implementation decisions.
  • Mentor junior and senior Workday consultants, review solution designs and configurations, and establish Workday Payroll design standards and implementation best practices.
  • Support production payroll cycles, critical payroll events, post-production stabilization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain comprehensive functional and technical documentation, including solution designs, configuration workbooks, business process flows, testing documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and critical-thinking capabilities when evaluating complex payroll requirements and facilitating design and architecture decisions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Workday Payroll, Absence, Time Tracking, HCM functionality, Workday releases, and industry best practices.
  • Work effectively across multiple projects and stakeholder groups while delivering high-quality solutions in fast-paced enterprise environments.
  • Workday certification in Payroll, HCM, Absence, and/or Time Tracking preferred, with the ability to obtain additional Workday certifications based on project requirements.
