Job Description

We are looking for Network Automation & Observability Engineer for our client in Northborough, MA

Job Title: Network Automation & Observability Engineer

Job Location: Northborough, MA

Job Type: Contract

Pay Range: $47.00hr - $52.00hr

Job Overview:

An experienced Network Engineer specializing in Network Tooling, Automation, and Observability is required to support the continued development and modernization of network engineering capabilities. The role will focus on the engineering, administration, integration, and automation of network management and observability platforms, including ThousandEyes, SolarWinds, Infoblox DDI, NetBrain, and ServiceNow. The engineer will work across network engineering and platform capabilities to improve network observability, telemetry, automation, data quality, and operational insight. A key part of the engagement involves developing integrations between network platforms using Python, scripting, and APIs, as well as applying modern NetDevOps and software delivery practices to network engineering. The role will also support the evolution of data-driven network operations and AIOps by using network telemetry and operational data to improve visibility, proactively identify issues, correlate events, and enable automated remediation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engineer, operate, maintain, integrate, and enhance network tooling platforms including ThousandEyes, SolarWinds, Infoblox DDI, NetBrain, and ServiceNow.
  • Develop integrations between network platforms, devices, and supporting platforms, management tooling, and network services using REST APIs, Python, and scripting.
  • Develop and enhance network observability capabilities using monitoring, telemetry, performance, and operational data.
  • Design and implement network configuration automation and repeatable engineering workflows.
  • Develop reusable scripts, tooling, and automation to reduce manual engineering activity and improve consistency.
  • Apply NetDevOps and modern software delivery practices, including source control, versioning, testing, and CI/CD principles, to network engineering.
  • Extract, transform, and analyze data from network platforms and APIs to provide actionable engineering and operational insights.
  • Identify opportunities to apply AI and AIOps techniques to network operations, including event correlation, anomaly identification, automation, and onboarding or integrating AI Agents, Agent Skills, and Agent Workflows to deliver AIOps.
  • Integrate network tooling with operational workflows, including ServiceNow, to improve incident, event, and configuration processes.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues spanning network infrastructure, tooling, APIs, integrations, automation, and data.
  • Work with network engineering, architecture, operations, and platform teams to translate requirements into scalable engineering solutions.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, integration designs, automation standards, and operational guidance.
  • Contribute to engineering standards and reusable automation patterns across the Network Engineering function.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Strong Network Engineering background with a solid understanding of enterprise LAN/WAN, routing, IP networking, DNS, DHCP, and network management concepts.
  • Strong hands-on Python and scripting experience, with evidence of developing network automation, tooling, or integration solutions rather than simply executing existing scripts.
  • Strong API and systems integration experience, particularly REST APIs and integration between network management or enterprise platforms.
  • Strong experience with network monitoring, management, and observability within complex enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following platforms, with the ability to work across and integrate a broader network tooling ecosystem: ThousandEyes, SolarWinds, Infoblox DDI, NetBrain, ServiceNow, Cisco Meraki, Cisco Catalyst Center, Cisco ISE.
  • Experience developing network configuration automation and repeatable automated engineering workflows.
  • Understanding of NetDevOps principles, including Git/source control, CI/CD, testing, and software engineering practices applied to network infrastructure.
  • Experience working with network telemetry, operational data, APIs, and analytics to derive meaningful engineering and operational insights.
  • Understanding of data engineering concepts, including the collection, transformation, normalization, and analysis of data from multiple systems.
  • Understanding of AI/AIOps concepts and how they can be applied to network monitoring, observability, event management, and operational automation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot across network, software, API, data, and tooling layers, rather than focusing solely on individual platforms.
  • Experience working within large-scale, complex enterprise network environments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with network engineers, software/platform engineers, architects, and operational teams.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Advanced experience administering and integrating ThousandEyes, SolarWinds, Infoblox DDI, and/or NetBrain.
  • Experience developing integrations with ServiceNow, particularly across network events, incident, or configuration workflows.
  • Experience with infrastructure/network-as-code and automation frameworks.
  • Experience developing CI/CD pipelines for network configuration, automation, or tooling.
  • Experience working with structured network data, telemetry, data engineering, analytics, or visualization.
  • Practical experience applying AI/ML or AIOps capabilities within network operations or observability.
  • Experience with cloud networking, APIs, and modern cloud-native tooling.
  • Experience with Git-based collaborative development and code review.

Desirable Certifications:

  • Cisco CCNP / CCIE.
  • Cisco DevNet/Automation Professional or Expert, or equivalent automation/software development certification.
  • Infoblox certifications.
  • SolarWinds or ThousandEyes platform certifications.
  • ServiceNow technical certifications.
  • Relevant Python, DevOps, cloud, or automation certifications.
