Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Node.js Developer to join our development team in Menlo Park, CA. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, backend application development, and RESTful API design.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performance server-side applications and APIs. This role requires close collaboration with frontend developers, product managers, designers, DevOps engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver reliable, high-quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Node.js.
• Build, integrate, and maintain RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL services.
• Write clean, reusable, maintainable, and efficient JavaScript/TypeScript code.
• Work with relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Implement authentication, authorization, and data security best practices.
• Integrate third-party APIs and external services.
• Collaborate with frontend developers to ensure seamless application integration.
• Develop and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end automated tests.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application issues.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, and responsiveness.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical design decisions.
• Maintain technical documentation and follow established development standards.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and release processes.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and backend development best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience with backend frameworks such as Express.js, NestJS, or Fastify.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design, API integration, and backend architecture.
• Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative software development workflows.
• Solid understanding of asynchronous programming, event-driven architecture, and performance optimization.
• Experience developing automated tests using Jest, Mocha, or similar testing frameworks.
• Understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing and developing microservices-based applications.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform).
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of message brokers and event-streaming technologies such as RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka, or AWS SQS.
• Experience with CI/CD tools, deployment automation, and release management.
• Understanding of application security, OAuth, JWT, and secure API development.
• Experience with application monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting tools.
• Familiarity with serverless architectures and technologies.
• Contributions to open-source projects or a strong GitHub portfolio.
