Network Technical Specialist

Location: Melbourne / Sydney

Salary: AUD 90,243-98,861 Annual Gross (indicative; may be enhanced based on internal processes)

Role Overview

As a driven and experienced Network Technical Specialist, you will join the Enterprise Network Management (ENM) team to deliver high quality services to enterprise customers. The role focuses on proactive network monitoring, root cause analysis, and incident management across service provider and data centre infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the full lifecycle of incidents, service requests, problems, and changes, ensuring SLA compliance and prompt resolution.
  • Provide proactive and reactive network support, anticipating failures and responding decisively to incidents.
  • Participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings, offering technical insight for risk assessment and approval.
  • Coordinate with third party vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, etc.) to manage escalations and resolve hardware/software issues.
  • Communicate technical updates to customers in a clear, professional, and empathetic manner.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster continuous improvement within the team.
  • Assess customer IT environments, recommend enhancements, and propose forward looking solutions.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance performance, resilience, scalability, and maintainability of managed network environments.
  • Align all projects and operations with organisational goals, enterprise architecture principles, and compliance frameworks.
  • Maintain high quality technical documentation, including architecture records, runbooks, and change workflows.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and vendor developments, integrating new knowledge into practices.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in network and infrastructure engineering.
  • At least 3 years of customer facing technical support experience within NOC, managed services, or similar.
  • Hands on expertise in routing, switching, SD WAN, network security, and infrastructure management.
  • Experience troubleshooting IP VPN, transport, and mobile networks; cable diagnostics across fiber, copper, and dark fiber.
  • Proficiency with Cisco and Juniper routers and network devices.
  • Strong fault isolation, escalation, and service restoration skills.
  • Clear, timely customer communication and adherence to agreed SLAs.
  • Exposure to leading vendor technologies such as Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Meraki, Microsoft, F5, Linux, VMware, Netscaler, Fortigate, Velocloud, Solarwinds, ServiceCentral, Magpie, Splunk, and Merge.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a Telco or ISP environment.
  • Knowledge of network automation and scripting (Python, Ansible).
  • Experience supporting Australian government or public sector environments.
  • Involvement in large scale network transformation, migration, or modernisation projects.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking concepts (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Industry certifications such as CCNP, JNCIP, Fortinet NSE, or ITIL Foundation.
