Job Overview

Our client, a large state government health and human services agency, is seeking a versatile Senior System Administrator / DevOps Engineer to manage, maintain, and optimize a critical Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS) application environment. This role bridges traditional system administration with modern cloud-native DevOps practices, and includes a key initiative to build a Proof of Concept (POC) for re-architecting the legacy application on AWS.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers in AWS cloud environments (EC2)
• Administer and troubleshoot Java/J2EE applications on WebLogic, including JDBC, connection pools, and JVM monitoring
• Provide system-level support for Oracle RDS, collaborating with DBA teams for performance tuning, backup, and recovery
• Monitor system performance and security using Dynatrace and CloudWatch
• Build a POC to rebuild the legacy Java/J2EE application using modern AWS services (Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3) and microservices
• Automate administrative tasks using Shell, Python, Jython, and WLST scripting
• Develop POC for migrating code base from WebLogic to JBoss and Oracle RDS to PostgreSQL
• Collaborate with development, testing, and operations teams to streamline software delivery

Required Skills

• AWS cloud services: EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration
• WebLogic application server administration and Java/J2EE support
• Oracle database administration (system-level perspective)
• Scripting: Shell, Python, Jython, WLST
• Version control with GitLab and CI/CD practices
• Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
• Networking concepts and cloud security best practices

Preferred Skills

• Experience with healthcare data management and compliance standards
• Familiarity with JBoss and PostgreSQL migration
• Background in Medicaid or government IT systems
