Job Description
Clean Harbors is seeking a Tank Inspector to join our Environmental Testing, Certification, and Inspection team. In this role, you will perform detailed inspections of aboveground and underground storage tanks to ensure structural integrity, leak prevention, and compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. You will conduct field testing, document conditions, prepare inspection reports, and recommend corrective actions to protect people and the environment. Working within our safety-first and sustainability-focused culture, you will collaborate with operations and engineering teams while adhering to strict safety protocols and quality standards. This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to meaningful environmental protection projects while developing specialized technical skills in inspection and industrial services.
Responsibilities
- Perform internal and external inspections of aboveground and underground storage tanks for integrity, corrosion, and compliance
- Conduct non-destructive testing (e.g., UT, MT, PT) and interpret results to assess tank condition
- Verify compliance with environmental, safety, and industry standards (e.g., API, EPA, local regulations)
- Document findings through detailed field notes, photographs, and standardized inspection forms
- Prepare clear, accurate inspection reports and recommend corrective or preventive actions
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to schedule and execute inspections safely
- Follow and enforce Clean Harbors' safety policies, including HAZWOPER, confined space, and lockout/tagout procedures
- Use measurement tools, gauges, and digital systems to capture and manage inspection data
- Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Travel to client sites across the region, often in industrial and field/on-site environments
Required Skills
- Tank inspection procedures (aboveground and underground)
- Non-destructive testing (UT, MT, PT)
- Knowledge of API 653 and related standards
- Understanding of environmental and EPA storage tank regulations
- Technical report writing and documentation
- Use of inspection tools, gauges, and thickness meters
- Reading technical drawings and tank schematics
- Safety compliance (HAZWOPER, confined space, LOTO)
- Basic corrosion science and failure mechanisms
- Use of digital data collection and reporting systems
