Principal EC&I Engineer - NTSP Project
Location: Glasgow, G2 8JQ
Working Pattern: Hybrid, ideally 2 days per week in the Glasgow office
Security Clearance: Active SC Clearance required prior to commencement
Eligibility: Sole British Nationals only

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal EC&I Engineer to support the delivery of the NTSP programme at HMNB Clyde.

This is a key position within a major defence infrastructure project, requiring both strong technical expertise and proven leadership capability.

The successful candidate will lead EC&I design activities associated with new building infrastructure projects, ensuring engineering solutions are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with client requirements, programme objectives and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the EC&I design of new building infrastructure projects at HMNB Clyde.
Design and deliver HV and LV electrical systems.
Support the integration of communications systems including SCADA, networks and telecommunications.

Deliver building services electrical design including:
Lighting
Small power
Earthing
Lightning protection
Produce technical scopes of work and resource loading estimates for project changes.
Produce system specifications and associated engineering documentation.
Ensure all designs meet client requirements, standards and project expectations.
Manage engineering risks, technical issues and design assumptions.
Oversee design change control throughout the project lifecycle.
Support project planning and ensure timely delivery against programme requirements.

Leadership Responsibilities

As a Principal Engineer, you will:


Lead and mentor junior engineers within the team.
Allocate and coordinate day-to-day engineering activities.
Ensure resources are focused on the right activities at the right time.
Provide technical leadership across the EC&I discipline.
Take ownership of engineering deliverables and technical decisions.
Collaborate with project managers, clients and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful delivery.

Essential Experience


Significant experience in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineering.
Strong background in HV and LV electrical system design.
Experience in building services electrical design.
Knowledge of lighting, small power, earthing and lightning protection systems.
Experience with SCADA, telecommunications and network systems.
Ability to produce technical scopes, specifications and engineering documentation.
Experience managing technical risks, assumptions and design changes.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Experience working within highly regulated or safety-critical environments.

Desirable Experience

Nuclear, defence, utilities or major infrastructure experience.
Trimble / Amtech
DIALux
ETAP
Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration.
