Maintenance Mechanical Engineer
ROLE: Maintenance Mechanical Engineer
PAY RATE: £21.74 per hour PAYE (£42,000 equivalent)
CONTRACT TYPE: Temporary - Until 9th November, with possibility of extension or conversion
LOCATION: Alderley Park, Macclesfield
THE ROLE:
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Maintenance Mechanical Engineer to support the maintenance and operation of a large site in Alderley Park, Macclesfield.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding and remedial works across mechanical building services and associated systems. You will work both independently and as part of a wider engineering team, ensuring all tasks are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
The role requires someone who can communicate confidently with customers and site teams, manage their own workload and maintain accurate records of all planned and reactive activities.
There may be an opportunity for the position to be extended or converted following the initial contract period.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across the site.
Diagnose and resolve mechanical and building services faults.
Carry out fault finding on HVAC, LTHW, CLTHW systems, pumps, motors and associated plant.
Support the maintenance and operation of mechanical and plumbing systems.
Respond promptly to reactive maintenance requests and emergency situations.
Ensure all assigned tasks are completed within agreed timescales and to the required standard.
Provide parts lists and estimated timescales for remedial works where required.
Ensure suitable tools, equipment and consumables are available to complete maintenance and reactive works.
Keep plant rooms and work areas clean, safe and tidy.
Complete all relevant paperwork and update the CAFM system accurately following planned and reactive works.
Ensure PPM and reactive tickets are closed out with accurate information.
Prepare and follow Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all works.
Support the Helpdesk with reporting and updating planned and reactive activities.
Produce condition and dilapidation reports where required.
Communicate effectively with customers, end users, subcontractors and colleagues.
Provide support during emergency situations to maintain business and operational continuity.
Carry out out-of-hours call-out support where required.
Work independently when required and oversee subcontractors where appropriate.
Ensure contractual KPIs and SLAs are consistently met.
MECHANICAL & BUILDING SERVICES
The successful candidate should have strong practical experience in mechanical building services, including:
HVAC systems and associated plant.
Heating and ventilation systems.
LTHW and CLTHW systems.
Pumps and motors.
BMS fault finding.
Mechanical and plumbing systems.
Cooling towers - desirable.
Water hygiene and L8 requirements.
General building services maintenance and fault finding.
HEALTH, SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
Follow all relevant health and safety policies and procedures.
Ensure Method Statements and Risk Assessments are followed for all works.
Maintain a safe and professional working environment.
Wear the required uniform and PPE at all times.
Report accidents, near misses and dangerous circumstances promptly.
Ensure all test equipment is safe to use and within calibration.
Comply with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
Follow Permit to Work procedures where applicable.
Maintain awareness of site-specific risks and safety requirements.
Be prepared to undertake lone working following appropriate training.
Obtain relevant technical appointments and authorisations where required.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification, such as City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ or equivalent.
Recognised Electrical Engineering qualification.
18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
Strong experience in mechanical building services maintenance.
Experience fault finding on HVAC and associated mechanical systems.
Experience working with heating, ventilation and air conditioning plant.
Experience with pumps, motors, LTHW and CLTHW systems.
Experience with BMS fault finding.
Good understanding of health and safety requirements.
Good computer literacy and experience using CAFM systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to produce clear and accurate reports.
Ability to manage and prioritise workload effectively.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong customer service skills and a professional approach.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
City & Guilds 2391/2394/2395.
First Aid at Work qualification.
Cooling tower experience.
IPAF 3a and 3b certification.
Experience with Permit to Work systems and issuing permits.
Understanding of L8 ACOP and water hygiene requirements.
Previous experience obtaining or working towards Authorised Person (AP) status.
Experience working within a commercial or large-site FM environment.
