Job Description

Senior Audio Technician:

Audio Fit PD Study Tech V1 Job Summary: The Audio Fit PD Study Tech role supports the Product Design Engineering group working on AirPods. This role is responsible for supporting AirPods fit-related studies.

 

Job Description:

• Assemble hardware prototypes for the purposes of bench top testing and/or user studies • Test prototypes in mechanical test setups

• Proctor studies

• Follow established protocols for qualitative and quantitative data collection

• Conduct in-person user study sessions including intake forms, interviewing, observing, and administering complex testing protocols involving diverse hardware and software • Recruit and schedule study participants

• Organize supplies, set up and troubleshoot equipment, and maintain user study area • Categorize and summarize participant feedback and behavior

• Maintain research and data documentation

• Analyze data for bench top and user study test data, including report generation

• Work with Fit PD and cross-functional teams to develop new tests and user study protocols

• Learn and adopt new tools / instrumentation quickly and recommend process improvements

• Present results to the internal team on a regular basis

• Organize and maintain timeline of upcoming studies • In-office support M-F (5 days a week)

• Transfer / pick up hardware between buildings in Santa Clara Valley area

 

Key Qualifications:

• Technician diploma from a product design / human factors / engineering, or equivalent program or greater, or relevant hands-on experience

• Experience preparing and proctoring user studies with prototypes • Clear communicator with strong written and verbal skills

• Experience producing scientific test reports

• Good understanding of the scientific method and how to apply to user studies

• Quick to learn and apply new tools, software, and lab techniques

• Hands-on experience in prototype work, assembly, and building of test jigs and fixtures

• Experience with lab measurement, imaging, and data collection workflows

• Strong organizational skills with experience managing and improving inventory systems

• Collaborative and positive team player with cross-functional partners

• Able to manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail

• Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment

• Computer skills and proficiency with Keynote and Numbers (or PowerPoint and Excel)

 

Nice-To-Have Experience & Skills:

• Experience with human factors or biomechanics research studies

• Experience with technical writing, for communicating test plans & results

• Experience using Instron or other materials testing equipment

• Familiarity with telemetry (force sensors, accelerometers, lasers, temperature, pressure) • Experience with metrology equipment (CMM, OMM, microscopy, laser scanners)

• Experience with basic electronics equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter)

• Good mechanical intuition and/or hands-on experience with small electromechanical devices

• Programming (MATLAB, LabView, Python, etc

 

Type: Contract (W2)

Duration: 18 months

Work Location: Cupertino, CA (100% on site)

Pay range: $30.00-$40.00/hr (DOE)
