Key Requirements for this Role
To successfully execute a Google Cloud Platform modernization program, the candidate should possess a blend of architecture design, hands-on engineering, and legacy-to-cloud transformation strategy.
1. Core Google Cloud Platform Services Expertise
- Compute & Orchestration: Deep experience with Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) , Google Compute Engine (GCE), and serverless options like Cloud Run and Cloud Functions.
- Data & Analytics: Solid understanding of managed databases like Cloud SQL , Cloud Spanner, and data warehousing/analytics tools like BigQuery and Cloud Pub/Sub.
- Networking & Security: Practical knowledge of VPC peering, Cloud Load Balancing, Shared VPCs, Identity-Aware Proxy (IAP), and IAM roles/permissions .
- DevOps & Automation: Automation expertise using Terraform (Infrastructure as Code) and Google Cloud Platform deployment tools (Cloud Build).
2. Modernization Experience (The "Program" Aspect)
- Migration Strategies: Proven track record of moving workloads beyond simple "Lift and Shift" (Rehost) into Refactoring and Replatforming .
- Legacy Assessment: Ability to assess monolithic applications (e.g., on-premise VMs, legacy databases) and break them down into microservices .
- CI/CD Pipelines: Experience building secure, automated deployment pipelines to ensure zero-downtime deployments (Blue/Green or Canary).
- Cost & Governance: Experience using Google Cloud's operations suite (formerly Stackdriver) and optimizing costs via FinOps practices .
