Job Description

  • *Position Title:** HR Consultant
  • *Classification:** 1099 Independent Contractor
  • *Location:** Remote
  • *Work Environment:** 100% remote
  • *Schedule:** Fully flexible — consultant sets their own hours and schedule
  • *Compensation:** Tiered, based on customer ratings
## **Position Summary**
The HR Consultant responds directly to HR-related inquiries submitted by members of the public through the PocketHR™ app, providing accurate, practical guidance across topics such as employee benefits, FMLA, FLSA, EEO processes, compensation, and wage and hour rules. This role is well suited to an experienced HR generalist who can bring sound, real-world judgment to people asking real questions, often with little or no HR background of their own.
## **Key Responsibilities**
  • Respond to HR-related inquiries submitted by app users, in a timely and professional manner
  • Provide accurate, practical guidance across topics including employee benefits, FMLA, FLSA, EEO complaint processes, compensation, and wage and hour compliance
  • Draw on experience in both federal and private sector HR practice to address a wide range of inquiries
  • Communicate clearly with users who may have little or no HR background, adjusting explanations to their level of familiarity
  • Stay current on relevant employment law and regulatory changes so guidance remains accurate and up to date
  • Recognize and appropriately flag or redirect inquiries that fall outside the scope of general HR guidance, such as those requiring legal advice
## **Required Qualifications**
  • At least 6 years of human resources experience, or a law degree or master's degree in human resources or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience as a human resources generalist
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Working knowledge of employee benefits administration
  • Practical experience with FMLA compliance and administration
  • Practical experience with FLSA, including wage and hour rules
  • Experience with employee relations
  • Experience with collective bargaining
  • Experience with EEO complaint processes in the federal sector, private sector, or both
  • Experience with compensation structuring and wage administration
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing deliverables, and meet agreed-upon timelines without day-to-day supervision
## **Preferred Qualifications**
  • Experience with both federal sector (29 CFR 1614 / MD-110) and private sector (Title VII / EEOC) EEO processes
  • HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR
  • Prior experience providing HR advisory or consultation services directly to employees or the public, such as through a helpline, hotline, or advisory role
## **Engagement Terms**
This is a 1099 independent contractor engagement, not an employee position. The consultant is responsible for their own tax obligations, does not receive employee benefits through PocketHR, and has full discretion over how, when, and where the work is performed, subject to agreed-upon deliverables and deadlines.
Compensation follows a tiered structure based on customer ratings. Consultants who consistently receive higher ratings from app users qualify for higher compensation tiers, so pay is directly tied to the quality of service provided.
