Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee heavy highway and airport construction projects from planning through successful completion. The Project Manager will work closely with the Project Superintendent to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements while exceeding client expectations.
Candidate must have a strong background managing Heavy Highway Construction and/or Airport Construction projects and possess exceptional leadership, project planning, financial management, scheduling, and contract administration skills.
Mandatory Qualifications (Must Have)
- Minimum 5+ years of Project Management experience in Heavy Highway Construction and/or Airport Construction projects.
- Proven experience managing Heavy Highway or Airport Construction projects.
- Bachelor''''s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent related experience.
- Strong experience with project budgeting, scheduling, contract administration, subcontractor management, and cost control.
- Experience developing and managing Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules using Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, Viewpoint, and HCSS HeavyJob.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage heavy highway and airport construction projects from initiation through completion.
- Work closely with the Project Superintendent to plan, coordinate, execute, monitor, and successfully deliver assigned projects.
- Define, communicate, and document project responsibilities across the project team.
- Collaborate with the Project Estimator to understand project scope, budget, and schedule.
- Conduct regular project meetings and effectively manage subcontractor performance.
- Identify project risks and issues, implement corrective actions, and verify successful resolution.
- Coordinate with clients, engineers, architects, consultants, utility companies, and local jurisdictions regarding permits, schedules, project objectives, and deliverables.
- Manage project administration including RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, progress billing, daily logs, and project reports.
- Monitor project costs using project management software and maintain accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare project financial forecasts and cost projections.
- Develop daily, weekly, and long-term project schedules.
- Prepare, review, and maintain CPM schedules using Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling software.
- Monitor schedule performance and proactively address delays through recovery planning and schedule adjustments.
- Prepare and negotiate time extension requests when required.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, contractual obligations, and company quality standards.
Additional Responsibilities
- Attend owner pre-construction meetings.
- Participate in estimating handoff meetings.
- Prepare, price, negotiate, and present change order proposals.
- Review and approve progress payment requests while maintaining positive project cash flow.
- Identify additional work opportunities and negotiate associated costs with project owners.
- Monitor project issues impacting schedule, cost, or quality and lead timely resolution.
- Escalate major project concerns to the VP of Project Management or VP of Operations as appropriate.
- Facilitate project planning, pre-construction strategy, and execution meetings.
- Be available during winter months to supervise snow removal operations outside normal business hours when required.
- Respond to emergency project communications during evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
