Job Description

Our purpose is to bring together people, energy and markets to power and navigate a changing world. In a time of constant change and possibility we need new talent to pursue commercial opportunities, fuelled by world-class insight and expertise. We’re always striving for more innovative digital solutions, sustainable outcomes and closer collaboration across our company and beyond, and you could be part of that too.

About the role:

Join bp’s Debt and Derivatives team within Treasury Finance, where you will play a key role in supporting bp’s Treasury function through robust financial control, forecasting and reporting of Group debt, foreign exchange and interest rate risk management activities, as well as the related hedge accounting requirements.

We are seeking a strong, qualified accountant with experience in financial reporting and an understanding of financial instruments, debt, derivatives or hedging activities.

We are looking for a technically strong individual, well-versed in complex financial concepts, including financial instrument and hedge accounting, basic derivative valuation principles, reporting and experience with financial controls. Treasury experience is beneficial but not essential; we welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in audit, accounting advisory, treasury advisory or industry finance who are looking to develop their expertise in this specialist area.

This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with Treasury and Finance stakeholders, contribute to high-profile reporting activities and drive continuous improvement initiatives within a collaborative and supportive team environment.

What you'll be doing:

Quarterly / Annual Financial Reporting

  • Reporting Treasury derivative transactions including hedge accounting, derivative and trading results in an efficient, timely and accurate manner.

  • Interact with external auditors on external reporting matters.

  • Provide derivative and hedge accounting inputs into BP PLC’s Annual Report and Accounts.

Hedge Accounting

  • Act as advisor to counterparties within the business on hedging and hedge accounting related matters under IFRS 9.

  • Perform hedge effectiveness testing for various cash flow and fair value hedges.

  • Draft and maintain hedge accounting documentation for various hedges across Treasury.

Management reporting

  • Prepare and submit plan, forecast and actual figures impacted by hedging and derivative activities for management reporting and planning purposes.

Financial Controls

  • Maintain internal control documentation in support of SOX requirements and policies related to bp’s derivative and hedge accounting activities.

Other

  • Active involvement in ad hoc initiatives related to derivative and hedge accounting.

  • Identify areas for process improvement and efficiencies.

What we're looking for:

Essential

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).

  • Strong financial accounting and reporting experience.

  • Understanding of IFRS accounting treatments for financial instruments.

  • Knowledge of debt, derivatives, hedging activities and or other financial instruments.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Track record of applying rigour and due diligence to complex data reconciliation processes within a wide variety of transactions activity types

  • Able to interpret and communicate financial information with clarity, to both internal management and the external auditors.

  • Advanced Excel capabilities.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams and manage competing priorities.

Desirable

  • Treasury Finance or Treasury Accounting experience.

  • Experience with hedge accounting.

  • Exposure to bonds, derivatives (including swaps and FX forwards) and financial risk management activities.

  • Experience in the use of Bloomberg to extract derivative valuations and information on market movements.

  • Experience gained within professional services, accounting advisory, treasury advisory, audit or a large corporate finance environment.

  • Experience with Wallstreet Suite and/or SAP BW.

  • Chartered Accountant designation
