Summary
Client is seeking a Rocket Enterprise Developer to support a large-scale migration and ongoing development from an IBM mainframe environment to a Linux-based AWS Cloud platform using Rocket software's enterprise server solution.  This is a development-focused role.
 
Responsibilities
  • Remediate and refactor legacy COBOL applications.
  • Ensure programs compile and execute correctly within Rocket enterprise developer and enterprise server.
  • Convert and validate JCL and control cards.
  • Resolve defects identified during parallel testing.
  • Support deployments and post-cutover stabilization activities.
  • Interact with app support and other dev teams on standards, processes, and procedures for mainframe development.
  • Train and onboard new developers from partner companies.
  • Support the transition from migration project work into ongoing application support.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of COBOL and CICS application development experience including:
    • Hands-on coding, debugging, and unit testing experience;
    • Working in a modernized, non-mainframe COBOL environment;
    • Ability to write JCL, PROCS, and control cards and execute them.
  • Experience with Rocket Enterprise Developer (formerly Micro Focus) including:
    • Building, compiling, and debugging COBOL applications;
    • Using Eclipse or Visual Studio IDE.
  • Experience with Rocket Enterprise Server including:
    • Deploying COBOL applications to the platform;
    • Troubleshooting runtime issues;
    • Partnering with infrastructure and administration teams.

Preferred

  • IBM Mainframe experience.
  • Experience with legacy system modernization.
  • Experience with Linux, specifically:
    • Command line experience;
    • File system navigation;
    • Basic scripting;
    • Log analysis and troubleshooting;
    • Code promotion across environments.
  • Experience with AWS Cloud, specifically:
    • Solid understanding of COBOL workloads running on Linux in AWS;
    • Familiarity with cloud-hosted application environments.
