Sr. Network Engineer, IPv6 SME
Location: Alexandria, VA (Onsite)
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Senior Network Engineer/IPv6 SME for an onsite position. The candidate will provide network management and IPv6 architecture design support. The candidate will function as the lead for the implementation and augmentation of IPv6 into the existing environment and will support the full system engineering life-cycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, integration, test, and implementation.
Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall network engineering support for a broad range of programs.
• Operate independently as a senior technical advisor, leading architecture discussions and briefing senior stakeholders.
• Design, implement, and troubleshoot enterprise-scale IP networks.
• Develop and maintain HLDs/LLDs, network diagrams, implementation plans, and technical standards.
• Support network modernization, migration, or transformation in large, complex environments.
• Challenge designs when appropriate, identify risks/dependencies, and develop remediation strategies.
• Lead complex troubleshooting and coordinate across teams.
• Mentor personnel on network engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline is preferred. Equivalent education, training, certifications, and professional experience may be considered.
• 10 years of professional experience in network engineering, network architecture, or related telecommunications/infrastructure disciplines.
• 5+ years of demonstrated IPv6 experience covering architecture, addressing, routing, implementation, migration, dual-stack environments, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with enterprise routing/switching and protocols/services such as BGP, OSPF/OSPFv3, EIGRP, IS-IS, IPv4/IPv6, DNS, DHCP/DHCPv6, ICMP/ICMPv6, TCP/IP, and SNMP.
• Experience with network security technologies, including firewalls, access control, segmentation, and security monitoring.
• Experience with Cisco, F5, and CrowdStrike technologies.
• Experience architecting and implementing zero trust solutions.
• Strong technical communication, documentation, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Federal Government network engineering, IPv6 mandates/standards, or enterprise IPv6 readiness initiatives.
• Experience with enterprise IPv6 adoption/migration roadmaps and IPv6-only environments.
• Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or equivalent cloud networking; data center networking and virtualization.
• Knowledge of integrating IPv6 with firewalls, load balancers, DNS/DHCP, identity/access-control, security, monitoring, and management platforms.
• Experience in network disaster recovery, resiliency, continuity, automation, modernization, or technology refresh.
• Relevant certifications such as CCIE/CCNP, JNCIP/JNCIE, recognized IPv6 credentials, Azure Network Engineer, AWS Advanced Networking, CISSP, or Security+.
