Java Software Engineer

Location: Remote

Role Overview

The Software Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and deployment of software applications. This role requires a technical background, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a SAFe Agile environment. The Software Engineer will play a role in maintaining the quality and efficiency of software solutions. This role supports a federal program that requires eligibility to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy software applications using Java, Spring Boot, and related technologies.
  • Participate in all phases of the Agile development lifecycle, including planning, estimation, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices, conduct code reviews, and write unit tests.
  • Work with product owners, Scrum Masters, and DevSecOps engineers to deliver software solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software issues, provide root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for software applications and processes.
  • Enhance software development processes and tools to improve efficiency and quality.
Required Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on Java & a focus on backend tools & technologies.
  • Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, RESTful API development, microservices architecture, the ActiveMQ message broker, and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience defining API contracts using OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
  • Experience developing and managing service-to-service communication patterns using synchronous (REST) and asynchronous messaging frameworks such as ActiveMQ, Amazon MQ, and SQS.
  • Experience with version control systems (GitHub) and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) tools (Jenkins).
  • Experience with databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle) and data modeling.
  • Experience with test automation tools and frameworks such as Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, and Cucumber.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, Bash scripting, Linux, AWS services (Amazon MQ, SQS, S3, EC2, EKS, RDS, CloudWatch), and infrastructure as code tools (Terraform).
  • Experience with system monitoring tools (Apache JMeter, Grafana, Splunk, DataDog, CloudWatch).
  • Knowledge of data analytics tools (AWS QuickSight, Elasticsearch).
  • Experience with agile methodologies (SAFe, Scrum) and tools (Jira, Confluence).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • SAFe Agile Certification.
  • Experience in healthcare IT and understanding of regulatory requirements such as HIPAA.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of CMS processes and standards.
  • Experience in developing responsive, dynamic, and interactive user interfaces using Angular and React frameworks.
  • Experience in converting UI/UX wireframes and prototypes into functional applications.
