Technical Configuration Engineer – Building Management Systems (BMS) / Smart Spaces
Quick Overview
Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a Technical Configuration Engineer with specialized expertise in Building Management Systems (BMS), Smart Spaces, and IoT platform integrations to support an enterprise smart building initiative. In this role, you will manage site-level configurations, edge hardware deployments, and data source onboarding across client locations.
The ideal candidate possesses strong technical troubleshooting skills across building automation protocols, experience with cloud/edge software platforms (such as Kode OS), and the flexibility to perform both remote configuration and on-site hardware installations.
Key Responsibilities
Site Configuration & Onboarding: Execute remote per-site configuration using Kode OS and oversee data source onboarding, historical data backfills, and point mapping.
Energy Module Integration: Configure and validate "Enable On" Energy module integrations to enable automated energy management tracking.
Edge Hardware Deployment: Provide on-site and remote installation support for Nook hardware devices, gateway configurations, and network validations.
Tier-2 Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve complex site connectivity, data ingestion, edge-to-cloud telemetry, and sensor pipeline issues.
Landlord & BMS Workaround Design: Partner with facility leads and building landlords to architect technical workarounds for legacy, proprietary, or restricted landlord-managed BMS networks.
Field Support: Perform hands-on, on-site commissioning and troubleshooting near San Diego, CA, with travel expected for project deployments.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
Industry Expertise: 3+ years of experience working with Building Management Systems (BMS), Building Automation Systems (BAS), Smart Spaces, or IoT Edge implementations.
Platform & Hardware Depth: Direct experience with smart space software platforms (experience with Kode OS highly preferred) and physical edge installations (e.g., Nook devices, IoT gateways).
Protocols & Data Schemas: Working knowledge of standard building automation and IoT protocols (BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, Niagara, REST APIs).
Data Integration: Proven ability to map data points, execute data backfill configurations, and debug telemetry streams.
Problem Solving: Ability to engineer creative integration workarounds for legacy or restricted landlord-controlled environments.
Work Environment & Travel Requirements
Hybrid Model: Combination of remote configuration work and required local on-site execution in/near San Diego, CA.
Travel: Regional travel expected for on-site hardware installs, edge device commissioning, and field validation.
