Python/Flask Software Engineer

Location: San Jose, CA

Overview

We're looking for a contract Software Engineer to support an internal program management platform used across hardware compliance programs. This is a live production system with real users — it tracks project timelines, workflow states, and compliance data that teams rely on daily. The stack is Python/Flask with Jinja templates, MySQL, and a JavaScript front end, deployed on Linux behind Nginx and Gunicorn. The platform also includes AI-backed features (LangChain/LangGraph) for document summarization and extraction.

You'll be extending a working codebase — some parts mature, some built fast to solve immediate problems — adding new features, integrating with existing enterprise tools, improving test coverage, and keeping the system healthy in production.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Flask routes, Jinja templates, JavaScript features, and REST-style APIs
• Write safe, maintainable MySQL queries and support schema migrations
• Build integrations with SharePoint, Confluence, Agile PLM, LDAP, SMTP, and internal AI services
• Extend LangGraph/LangChain workflows and AI summarization features, knowing when a deterministic solution is the better fit
• Write automated tests (pytest, Playwright), including for AI-backed features with non-deterministic output
• Diagnose production issues using logs, metrics, database evidence, and reproducible test cases
• Improve documentation, deployment scripts, cache refresh jobs, and operational tooling
• Follow secure development practices for authentication, authorization, and sensitive data
• Use AI coding assistants effectively — knowing when to rewrite output and reviewing anything touching auth, secrets, or compliance data

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
• Professional experience with Python and web application development
• Familiarity with Flask or another backend web framework
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases
• Experience with Git, automated testing, and debugging
• Basic understanding of HTTP, REST APIs, JSON, OAuth/OIDC, and Linux environments
• Working fluency with AI coding assistants and a habit of reviewing their output before committing

Preferred Qualifications

• JavaScript, Jinja, Bootstrap, or jQuery experience
• Experience with MySQL, Microsoft Graph, SharePoint, or LDAP
• Exposure to LangChain, LangGraph, Azure OpenAI, or retrieval-augmented generation
• Experience testing/evaluating nondeterministic output (e.g., regression testing an LLM feature)
• Familiarity with GitHub Actions, Nginx, Gunicorn, and cron
• Exposure to PLM systems
• Strong documentation and communication skills
