Job Summary
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mainframe QA Engineer to support a large-scale mainframe modernization and vendor migration initiative. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, accuracy, and reliability of legacy and modernized applications by designing and executing comprehensive testing strategies across complex mainframe environments
The ideal candidate possesses deep experience testing mainframe applications, validating large-scale data migrations, and collaborating with developers, analysts, and business stakeholders in an Agile environment.
Top 3 Requirements:
  1. Deep Mainframe QA/Test Engineering experience.
  2. Strong COBOL, DB2, JCL, VSAM, and SQL knowledge.
  3. Experience supporting modernization, migration, or large-scale legacy platform initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts for mainframe applications.
  • Perform functional, integration, regression, end-to-end, and data validation testing.
  • Validate data integrity across mainframe systems and downstream applications.
  • Test batch processing, file transfers, interfaces, and scheduled jobs.
  • Analyze requirements and translate business specifications into effective test scenarios.
  • Collaborate closely with Mainframe Engineers, Systems Analysts, Developers, and Product Owners.
  • Identify, document, track, and retest defects through resolution.
  • Support modernization and migration initiatives involving legacy mainframe systems.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives.
  • Provide QA leadership and best practices to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and production issue troubleshooting.
Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of Quality Assurance or Software Testing experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Mainframe testing experience.
  • Strong experience with:
    • COBOL
    • DB2
    • JCL
    • VSAM
    • SQL
    • SPUFI
    • IBM Utilities
  • Experience testing batch processing and file-based integrations.
  • Ability to write and execute complex SQL queries for data validation.
  • Experience with defect tracking and test management tools.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior Financial Services experience.
  • Previous Fidelity Investments experience.
  • Experience supporting mainframe modernization or migration projects.
  • Knowledge of:
    • File-AID
    • EZTrieve
    • CICS
    • Control-M
    • Endevor
  • Exposure to Java-based applications, REST/SOAP APIs, AWS, or cloud migration initiatives.
  • Experience leading QA efforts or mentoring junior QA team members.
