Job Description

Job Description:\n\nThe Company \nUnlimited Systems authors the category-leading Unlimited Financials practice management system focused on the unique revenue cycle requirements of specialty healthcare providers. Unlimited Systems customers enjoy streamlined business office workflows, reduced claim denial rates, and accelerated and amplified revenue streams.

Unlimited Systems is committed to ensuring that specialty healthcare providers thrive in a dynamic reimbursement environment. \nUnlimited Systems is building the financial infrastructure that a scaling, private-equity backed SaaS business demands — and the Controller will be the operational core of that infrastructure, ensuring the books are clean, the close is tight, and the numbers the CFO and Board rely on are always right. \n \nThe Challenge \nIn a PE-backed environment, financial accuracy is not a back-office concern — it is a trust and governance issue.

When the books are late, the audit is messy, or a revenue recognition question surfaces without a clear answer, it is the Controller who is accountable for the resolution — and the integrity of the entire financial reporting function. \nUnlimited Systems needs a Controller who brings both technical accounting depth and the operational discipline to build and manage the processes, systems, and team that make financial reporting consistently excellent.

This is a high-accountability role in a company that is growing fast and needs its accounting function to grow with it — not catch up to it. \nYou will be solving for: \n\n \n Owning a clean, consistent, on-time monthly close — building the processes, checklists, and team discipline that make the close predictable and the output trustworthy, every period without exception. \n\n \n Ensuring GAAP financial statements are accurate, well-documented, and audit-ready at all times — so the annual audit is an orderly process, not a scramble, and the CFO can sign off with confidence. \n\n \n Building the internal controls and accounting infrastructure appropriate to a scaling PE-backed SaaS company — establishing the policies, procedures, and segregation of duties that protect the business as it adds complexity and headcount. \n\n \n Serving as the CFO's right hand on technical accounting questions — providing clear, well-reasoned answers on revenue recognition, lease accounting, stock-based compensation, and other complex areas with speed and precision. \n\nYou'll know you've succeeded when: \n\n \n The monthly close consistently completes within five business days, with financial statements delivered to the CFO on time and requiring minimal revision. \n\n \n The annual audit concludes with no material weaknesses, no significant deficiencies, and a management letter that reflects a well-controlled accounting environment. \n\n \n Revenue recognition under ASC 606 is fully documented, consistently applied, and withstands scrutiny from the auditors, the Board, and any future transaction due diligence process. \n\n \n The accounting team is well-staffed, well-managed, and capable of handling growing transaction volume and organizational complexity without a proportional increase in errors or close time. \n The Position \nA full-time, in-person role reporting to our CFO, you will work from our headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio.\n As Controller, you will own the accounting function at Unlimited Systems — including the month-end close, financial statement preparation, technical accounting, audit management, internal controls, and the development of the accounting team.

You will be the operational backbone of the Finance organization and the primary owner of financial reporting accuracy and integrity. \Building and maintaining a close calendar, task checklist, and reviewing process that drives consistent on-time close completion.

Ensuring that all journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals are prepared accurately and reviewed thoroughly before financial statements are issued. \n\n \n GAAP Financial Statements — Preparing and owning the monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP financial statements — income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement — with supporting schedules and variance commentary that give the CFO and Board the context they need to understand performance. \Own the accounting inputs to the monthly rolling forecast — including actuals consolidation, accrual accuracy, and departmental spend tracking — and provide the clean, timely actuals data that enables the FP&A function to produce accurate variance analysis and updated projections.

Serve as the accounting bridge to the broader Finance team, ensuring forecast assumptions are grounded in what the books actually reflect. \n\n \n Revenue Recognition (ASC 606) — Owning the company's revenue recognition policy and its application across all contract types — subscription, implementation, professional services, and any variable or usage-based components. Maintaining clear documentation of judgments and ensure consistent application across the portfolio. n\n \n Audit Management — Leading the annual financial statement audit and any interim review procedures.

Managing the auditor relationship, coordinating evidence preparation across the team, and ensuring the audit progresses on schedule with minimal disruption to daily operations. Owning the response to auditor findings and management letter comments. \n\n \n Internal Controls & Compliance — Designing, documenting, and maintaining the system of internal controls appropriate to a PE-backed SaaS company of Unlimited Systems' size and complexity. Ensuring proper segregation of duties, approval workflows, and access controls are in place and operating effectively.

Monitoring compliance and addressing control gaps proactively. \n\n \n Technical Accounting — Researching and documenting accounting treatment for complex or non-routine transactions — including lease accounting (ASC 842), stock-based compensation (ASC 718), business combinations (ASC 805), and debt instruments — providing clear, well-reasoned memos that support consistent application and auditor confidence. \n\n \n Accounts Payable & Receivable — Overseeing AP and AR operations, ensuring vendor payments are processed accurately and on schedule, customer invoices reflect contract terms correctly, and collections are managed actively.

Ensuring the AR aging is clean and that revenue recorded matches cash collected. \n\n \n Payroll Oversight — Partnering with People & Culture to ensure payroll is processed accurately, on time, and in compliance with multi-state payroll tax requirements. Ensuring payroll journal entries and reconciliations are completed as part of the close cycle. \n\n \n Accounting Systems & Technology — Owning the company's accounting systems — ERP, expense management, and billing integrations.

Identifying and implementing system improvements that reduce manual effort, improve data integrity, and support the scalability of the accounting function. Leading or supporting any ERP upgrade or implementation as the company grows. \n\n \n Team Leadership & Development — Hiring, developing, and managing the accounting team.

Building a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous process improvement. n \n\nThe Person \nThis role is for an accounting leader who takes genuine pride in the craft of financial reporting — who understands that in a PE-backed company, the Controller is not a back-office function but the foundation on which every strategic financial decision is built. \You surface issues early rather than hope they resolve, and you take personal accountability for the accuracy and completeness of everything that comes out of the accounting function. \You don't rely on heroics or late nights to close the books — you build processes that make the close orderly by design. \n\n \n You're a technically strong accountant.

You've navigated ASC 606, dealt with multi-element arrangements, managed an audit from start to finish, and can write a technical accounting memo that holds up under scrutiny. You understand what a PE sponsor expects from a portfolio company accounting function — accurate numbers, a tight close, clean audit, and no surprises.

You've worked in or with a PE-backed company and you know the cadence, the reporting expectations, and what "audit-ready" actually means in that context. \You work with Sales on deal structure questions, with People & Culture on payroll, with Legal on contract terms, and with the CFO on everything.

You give clear answers, explain the "why" behind accounting positions, and build credibility through competence and consistency. \n\nQualifications \nRequired \n\n \n 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager role with ownership of the close and financial statements. \n\n \n CPA required; n\n \n Deep expertise in GAAP, with hands-on experience applying ASC 606 (revenue recognition) in a multi-element SaaS contract environment. \n\n \n Demonstrated experience managing an annual financial statement audit from start to finish — including auditor coordination, evidence preparation, and response to findings. \n\n \n Strong working knowledge of internal controls design and documentation appropriate to a scaling software company. \n\n \n Experience managing and developing an accounting team in a growth-stage environment. \n\n \n Proficiency with a modern ERP system (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or equivalent) and strong Excel skills. \n\n \nPreferred \n\n \n Prior experience in a PE-backed company, with familiarity with sponsor reporting requirements, management reporting packages, and investor due diligence support. \n\n \n Public accounting background (Big 4 or regional firm), ideally with technology or SaaS clients. \n\n \n Experience with technical accounting areas beyond ASC 606 — including ASC 842 (leases), ASC 718 (stock-based compensation), and ASC 805 (business combinations). \n\n \n Experience supporting or leading an ERP implementation or significant system upgrade. \n\n \n Familiarity with healthcare technology, health IT, or subscription-based software businesses. \n\n \nContinuous Learning Priorities \n\n \n Evolving GAAP standards — including FASB updates relevant to software companies, revenue recognition edge cases, and emerging guidance on digital assets or AI-related accounting considerations. \n\n \n AI-enabled accounting automation — including intelligent close management tools, automated reconciliation platforms, and ML-assisted anomaly detection in financial data. \n\n \n PE portfolio company accounting best practices — including management reporting standards, data room hygiene, and financial statement presentation conventions that support a smooth transaction process. \n\n \n Multi-state tax compliance developments — including nexus rules, payroll tax changes, and sales tax obligations for SaaS businesses operating across multiple jurisdictions. \We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic under applicable law.\If requested, Unlimited Systems will make every effort to provide reasonable accommodation to enable employees with disabilities to perform the position’s essential job duties.
