Role
purpose

We
require an experienced Broadcom Datacom DBA consultant to provide
additional specialist capacity and backup coverage for the existing Datacom
DBA supporting the Phoenix project.

The
primary purpose of the role is to remove the project's dependency on a single
Datacom DBA resource and ensure that suitably skilled DBA coverage is
available throughout development, testing and implementation preparation.

Most
activities will be performed in non-production environments,
supporting the development and testing teams and maintaining the Datacom
environments required for Phoenix delivery. This is a hands-on DBA role
requiring current practical experience administering, building, refreshing,
diagnosing and tuning Datacom databases.

Key
responsibilities

Provide effective backup and capacity support
for the existing Datacom DBA.

Administer
and maintain Datacom databases across Phoenix non-production environments.

Build,
configure, refresh and reset Datacom databases and environments to support development
and testing.

Diagnose and
resolve database faults, data-access issues, environmental problems and
performance concerns.

Support
developers and testers with database availability, data preparation,
troubleshooting and technical analysis.

Undertake
database installation, configuration, maintenance, upgrade and patching
activities where required.

Monitor and
tune Datacom databases to maintain appropriate reliability and performance.

Support
database backup, recovery, restore and integrity-validation activities.

Investigate
complex issues involving Datacom databases, application access, batch
processing and non-production environments.

Support
preparation for test cycles, implementation rehearsals, migration activities
and production readiness.

Maintain
appropriate DBA procedures, configuration records and operational
documentation.

Share
knowledge and maintain sufficient visibility of database activities to ensure
continuity when the existing Datacom DBA is unavailable.

Provide
production support or implementation assistance where specifically required,
although the primary focus will remain on non-production delivery.

Mandatory
experience and capabilities

At least 10 years of substantial hands-on
experience installing, administering, supporting and tuning Broadcom Datacom
databases.

Recent and
active experience working as a Datacom DBA, rather than relying only on
historical Datacom knowledge.

Demonstrated
experience building, refreshing, restoring, reconfiguring and maintaining
Datacom databases and environments.

Strong
troubleshooting capability, including diagnosis and resolution of database,
performance, integrity and environmental issues.

Strong
understanding of Datacom database structures, utilities, operational
processes, backup and recovery.

Experience
supporting application development, system testing, integration testing and
implementation activities.

Experience
administering Datacom in complex IBM mainframe environments.

Ability to
work independently and provide credible backup coverage for an experienced
Datacom DBA.

Strong
communication and documentation skills, with the ability to work effectively
with developers, testers, infrastructure specialists and application support
teams.

Desirable
experience

Experience supporting Datacom applications
within banking, insurance or another highly regulated environment.

Experience
supporting significant application migration, remediation or database-decommissioning
initiatives.

Experience
supporting data extraction, transformation, reconciliation and database
migration activities.

Familiarity
with mainframe scheduling, batch processing and performance-monitoring
toolsets.
