This retail technology firm builds intelligent, connected hardware solutions that integrate edge computing, computer vision, and proprietary Android platforms to transform brick-and-mortar commerce. Backed by heavy commercial investment, the business designs and deploys smart checkout and device systems directly into high-volume retail environments nationwide. The company is actively scaling its New York engineering hub to support expanding deployments and maintain zero-defect standards across its physical fleet.

Working as an individual contributor, you will take ownership of the manual testing lifecycle for the core Android application running on custom camera-vision and compute hardware. Embedded within an agile team of six engineers, four based onsite in New York and two offshore, you will validate critical checkout sequences, transaction stability, and device-level integrations under standard NYC business hours. Beyond executing thorough functional tests, you will act as a key technical resource on quality practices, occasionally consulting directly with product partners and external client teams when technical guidance is needed.

Requirements

• 3 to 5+ years of QA experience with a strong emphasis on Android mobile application testing, and ecommerce.
• Demonstrated experience testing transactional workflows, ecommerce systems, or payment processing flows.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting software running on physical devices or custom hardware environments.
• Proficiency in API validation and network inspection using tools such as Postman.
• Proven track record using test case management systems (e.g., TestRail, Jira) for bug tracking and test reporting.
• Experience with Point of Sale (POS) peripherals, payment terminals, or smart retail hardware is a strong plus.
• Basic familiarity with or exposure to test automation (Appium, Selenium) is a plus, with an appetite to learn down the line.
• Must be locally based in the NYC area and authorized to work in the US without current or future sponsorship (W2 only; no C2C).

Responsibilities

• Conduct rigorous, in-person functional, exploratory, and regression testing on proprietary Android hardware inside the New York lab.
• Validate end-to-end checkout journeys, verifying camera vision inputs, payment processing handoffs, and UI responsiveness.
• Identify, isolate, and document hardware-software integration defects, latency issues, and edge-case transaction failures.
• Partner with onsite developers, product managers, and offshore engineering teams to troubleshoot issues and track fixes through deployment.
• Serve as a testing subject matter expert, advising cross-functional stakeholders and client teams on proper test procedures when needed.
• Build, execute, and maintain comprehensive manual test plans, ensuring high-impact retail devices operate seamlessly in live stores.

This is a 6-month contract engagement with a strong likelihood of extension, based fully onsite five days a week in New York City. The position offers a target rate of $30.00 to $35.00 per hour on W2, depending on experience. The role provides direct exposure to modern edge-hardware and computer vision retail systems, with long-term opportunity to collaborate with dedicated automation teams and expand into automated testing workflows.
