Lead Java Developer

Job at a Glance

  • Contract: W2 only, 12 month contract with potential for extension or conversion to full time with either the client or CEI

Overview
CEI is seeking a Lead Java Developer to create and lead the technical design and development of software solutions for complex business needs on a milestone-driven, capitalized initiative. This role blends hands-on backend engineering with technical leadership, including solution design, documentation, and code review. Candidates should have strong Java expertise and experience leading delivery in an enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design, development, and deployment of enterprise software solutions.
  • Translate complex business needs into scalable backend application designs and implementation plans.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to engineers, including resolving complex technical issues and delivery blockers.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards through peer reviews, testing practices, and technical documentation.
  • Drive delivery of milestone-based work, including tracking deliverables and maintaining required technical and procedural documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to support APIs, integrations, and release management activities.

Required Skills

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Advanced Java expertise in enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a technical lead or development lead.
  • Strong background in application development and delivering customer-facing software solutions.
  • Experience producing technical and procedural documentation and supporting peer code review practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience facilitating complex issue resolution.
  • Familiarity with modern software delivery practices, including Agile/Scrum and SDLC best practices.

Education

  • No Education Requirements

Preferred Skills

  • Backend-focused full stack experience.
  • Experience with modern Java ecosystem frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot, Hibernate).
  • Experience with API design and integration patterns.
  • Experience with microservices architecture and CI/CD collaboration.
  • Exposure to UX considerations and release management practices.
