Job Description:
Apex Systems is looking to hire an ONSITE Software Integration Engineer - Lab Automation for our client based out of Hagerstown, MD.
This assignment is anticipated to be a 12-month contract with strong potential for extension; however, Apex Systems cannot guarantee the length of this assignment.
This will also have a first-shift Monday-Friday schedule.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and integrate software solutions that support automated engineering test environments, laboratory operations, and data acquisition systems.
  • Create test procedures and automation workflows used for system performance, durability, and regulatory testing.
  • Develop regression-testing tools, scripts, and applications using C# to improve test execution and data quality.
  • Build and maintain laboratory databases used to store, organize, and retrieve engineering test data.
  • Develop user interfaces and internal applications that support test operations, data access, and analysis.
  • Integrate test equipment, measurement devices, and intelligent hardware using multiple communication protocols.
  • Develop and maintain automation protocols for dynamometer, test-cell, and laboratory-based testing.
  • Troubleshoot software, hardware, communication, and integration issues within engineering test environments.
  • Identify, prioritize, and document technical issues while driving verified solutions through completion.
  • Support data acquisition and control systems associated with test equipment, measurement systems, and analytical devices.
  • Utilize tools such as Vector CANalyzer, Kvaser CAN, and related PC-based test applications to evaluate software and hardware performance.
  • Use manufacturer APIs to customize tools and extend the functionality of laboratory equipment and testing applications.
  • Develop and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases and web-based user interfaces using ASP.NET MVC.
  • Partner with laboratory technicians, engineers, and technical stakeholders to understand testing needs and translate them into reliable software solutions.
  • Prepare clear technical documentation covering automation functionality, software requirements, system interfaces, and operating procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, data processing, and overall laboratory performance.

Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field required; master's degree preferred.
    • OR 10+ years of relevant software development, automation, integration, or engineering laboratory experience may be considered in place of a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience developing software or automation solutions for engineering, laboratory, testing, manufacturing, or similarly technical environments.
  • Strong programming experience with C#, Microsoft SQL Server, and ASP.NET MVC.
  • Experience developing and supporting test automation software, regression tools, or engineering applications.
  • Ability to integrate hardware and software through APIs and communication protocols.
  • Experience designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting relational databases.
  • Strong data reduction, analysis, and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience documenting software defects and driving issues through verified resolution.
  • Familiarity with source control and collaborative software development practices.
  • Basic project planning and coordination skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with engineers, technicians, and technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have:
  • Experience supporting dynamometers, automated test cells, or engineering laboratory environments.
  • Knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, and data acquisition technologies.
  • Experience working with engine, powertrain, emissions, or other complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with diesel engines and exhaust aftertreatment systems.
  • Experience supporting regulatory, performance, or durability testing.
  • Background creating custom applications that improve test procedures, data quality, and data reduction.
