Job Description

Senior Android App Developer || G.C / U.S.C

6+Months

Plano, TX / Columbus, OH (Onsite, 5x/wk)

 

Role overview:
- Design, build, and ship high-quality Android applications
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions, provide solution alternatives and effort estimates
- Own features end-to-end from architecture and implementation to testing, release, and monitoring

Key responsibilities:
- Architect and develop Android apps using Kotlin (and Java interoperability where needed)
- Implement modern Android UI with Jetpack Compose and/or XML, following Material 3 and accessibility guidelines
- Integrate REST/GraphQL APIs, handle offline caching, background work, and push notifications
- Apply clean architecture and MVVM/MVI patterns; modularize code for scalability
- Write unit, integration, and UI tests; enforce code quality through reviews and static analysis
- Optimize app performance, memory usage, and startup time; use profiling tools
- Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines; manage Play Store releases and feature flags
- Monitor and improve stability using Crashlytics and analytics; support A/B testing and experimentation
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Backend; mentor peers and document solutions
- Adhere to security best practices (secure storage, network security config, obfuscation)

Basic qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or 4+ years equivalent work experience
- 5+ years professional Android development (8+ years preferred)
- Strong Kotlin experience; solid understanding of Android fundamentals and application architecture
- Proven experience defining requirements, proposing solution alternatives, and creating estimates for complex features
- Hands-on experience with Android Jetpack (Compose, ViewModel, LiveData/Flow, Navigation, Room, WorkManager)
- Proficient with Android Studio, Git, and Gradle
- Demonstrated track record shipping and maintaining production Android apps

Preferred qualifications:
- Coroutines and Flow expertise; dependency injection with Hilt/Dagger/Koin
- Testing with JUnit, Mockito, Espresso, and/or Robolectric; familiarity with TDD
- CI/CD with GitHub Actions, Bitrise, or Jenkins; code quality with Detekt/Ktlint/Lint
- Networking with Retrofit/OkHttp; serialization with Moshi/Gson
- Performance tooling (Android Profiler, LeakCanary); ProGuard/R8 configuration
- Experience with modularization, dynamic features, and feature toggles
- Exposure to KMM, Wear OS, Android TV, or Android Auto
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and collaborating with distributed teams

Tools and technologies:
- Android Studio, Git, Gradle
