Staff Cloud Engineer / AWS, EKS, CI/CD, React, Security / Hybrid Downtown Chicago

We are partnered with a leading financial technology company that powers secure payment solutions used by millions of consumers and businesses across the U.S. The organization builds highly scalable, mission-critical systems that support digital payments, financial services, and transaction security.

This role is a senior-level engineering position focused on designing, building, and deploying complex distributed systems and cloud solutions. You will work across architecture, backend development, cloud infrastructure, and modern front-end technologies while partnering with product and engineering teams to deliver business-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities

• Define technical strategy, architecture, and design for complex systems
• Build and scale distributed systems, microservices, and SaaS applications
• Lead cloud infrastructure and Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives using AWS, Terraform, and Ansible
• Architect and support Kubernetes-based systems and containerized environments
• Develop backend services using Java and Spring
• Build modern front-end solutions using React or Angular
• Design and maintain CI/CD, workflow, testing, and deployment pipelines
• Troubleshoot complex production and infrastructure issues across multiple layers
• Partner with product, design, operations, and engineering teams to deliver new features
• Drive improvements to engineering standards, tooling, scalability, security, and observability

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• 7+ years developing distributed systems, SaaS, cloud solutions, or microservices
• Strong AWS experience across compute, networking, storage, security, and observability
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including EKS, ECS, or similar platforms
• Strong Terraform and/or Ansible experience
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines and scalable cloud infrastructure
• Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging platforms such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Pub/Sub
• 2+ years of front-end development using React or Angular
• Experience designing and delivering business-critical, scalable systems
• Strong understanding of testing, secure coding, DevOps, and SDLC best practices
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
