Azure Cloud Engineer VDOT ITD Tolling

Location: Mechanicsville, VA
Work Arrangement: Remote

Position Summary

VDOT Information Technology Division (ITD) Tolling is seeking an Azure Cloud Engineer to join the Tolling Engineering and Operations team. This role includes Azure cloud engineering, application support and rotational help-desk support.

The selected candidate will implement, maintain and support resources in the Tolling Azure environment and collaborate with management, architects, developers, DBAs and engineers to ensure secure, efficient and optimized use of Azure services.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, maintain and support Azure cloud resources.

  • Ensure compliance with security, identity and access management (IAM), network controls and cost-governance policies.

  • Maintain infrastructure documentation, naming conventions, tagging standards and governance artifacts.

  • Assist with access reviews, role assignments and least-privilege evaluations.

  • Monitor Azure services and troubleshoot connectivity, access, security and performance issues.

  • Analyze logs, metrics and traces using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.

  • Support incident reviews, maintenance readiness, production issue resolution and root-cause documentation.

  • Prepare change requests, implementation plans and rollback procedures.

  • Support integrations and data flows involving tolling systems, roadway data, financial transactions and reporting.

  • Apply PCI or similar regulatory requirements when evaluating systems and logging.

  • Manage Key Vault, passwords, certificates and secure credential storage.

  • Support Azure services including App Services, API Gateways, Function Apps, Azure Virtual Desktop and Azure Kubernetes Service.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide SaaS, PaaS and IaaS best-practice guidance.

  • Support off-hours work as required.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Microsoft Azure administration/engineering.

  • 2+ years with Microsoft Windows Server 2019+.

  • 2+ years with server infrastructure, protocols, firewalls, certificates and load balancers.

  • 2+ years in networking, server administration, databases and cloud environments.

  • 2+ years of PowerShell/Python scripting.

  • 1+ year with Office 365 and Power Apps.

  • 1+ year with Terraform or equivalent Infrastructure as Code.

  • 1+ year with PCI or similar compliance frameworks.

  • 1+ year with Entra ID, SSO and identity administration.

  • Ability to create network and system topology documentation.

  • Experience working in Windows environments and communicating technical requirements clearly.

Desired Qualifications

  • Continuous integration tools: Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Git or TFS.

  • Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Key Vault, secrets and certificate management.

  • Azure certification such as AZ-104 or AZ-305.

  • Enterprise governance models.

  • Cloud cost analysis and optimization.

  • Azure Virtual Desktop experience.

Education

Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent experience.

  • Continued education to remain current with VDOT technologies is at the contractor s own expense.
