Job Description

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Sales Tax Exemption Specialist in Lakeland, FL.

Key Responsibilities

Contact Oklahoma customers via phone, email, and other approved communication channels to request updated or missing sales tax exemption certificates
Explain exemption certificate requirements and provide customers with instructions and documentation needed to complete submission requirements
Track all outreach activities, customer responses, and exemption certificate status within designated systems and reporting tools
Review submitted exemption certificates for completeness and escalate questions or exceptions to the Accounting team as needed
Maintain organized electronic records of all customer communications and exemption documentation
Conduct timely follow-up with customers who have not responded or who have submitted incomplete documentation
Coordinate with Accounting, Finance, Customer Success, and other internal teams to resolve customer questions related to sales tax exemption requirements
Prepare and maintain project status reports, including outreach metrics, response rates, and exemption certificate completion progress
Identify accounts that require additional escalation to meet project deadlines and communicate risks to management
Ensure customer information and tax documentation are handled in accordance with company confidentiality and record retention requirements
Follow established accounting policies, tax documentation procedures, and internal controls
Assist with other project-related tasks necessary to support the successful completion of the Oklahoma sales tax exemption initiative
High School diploma/GED or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred
Previous experience in customer service, collections, accounts receivable, administrative support, or tax documentation preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organizational and follow-up abilities
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and other business software applications
Ability to manage a high volume of customer outreach and documentation requests
Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines
